wonderful news. I can't until these become available. PSX before GBA is something I really didn't expect.

must search for ripped games... movies=bad

broadening the subject a bit, did you try the NGCD emulation?
how's the speed? If I remember my cyrix 120 could do it, but handhelds have been having difficulty with the neo geo systems.

NGCD goes all the way up to metal slug X or KOF 99

This is great! Now I'm not so sure if I want to steal my brothers PSP.... It's a hard decision. Does anyone know if they will be making any kind of web browser for the GP2X? that's one reason I really like the PSP.

if they do it wont be for a while, it has the ability to use SDIO wifi, but needs drivers and stuff. once we get that porting a browser should be easy

that is a huge reason multiple SD slots would have been nice. SDIO-wifi/flash is $$$$ for decent sizes. I wonder if you can hardwire the wifi portion of the sd memory and use other cards... That's a pretty stupid question--of course not, because then life would be as easy.

still, for a system that hasn't launched yet, it's got a lot of stuff on it. I'm guessing a lot of these early emus are sloppy ports that will have to be completely rewritten. But they're obviously workable, and in less than a year there will be a very nice collection of recompiled code for it. I think the first thing I'm going to do is try to run one of the opensource 'elite' clones through the SDK. (as soon as I can start testing with one)

I think this may be the system that brings open systems more mainstream. Funny how the opensourcers have all been handhelds (haven't they?)

you pretty much hit the nmail on the head all of the emulators are either quick ports or very early betas or alphas, you can get sdio wifi cards with 256mb ram in them but $$$ big costs, no real way around that, but the gp2x is just doing amazing already, so soon too, this thing will be big, not PSP or DS big but BIG compaired to the gp32 which sold 30k units in 5 years, there have been i think around 1/4 that in preorders for the 2x

OMG... so much for that 12-month timeframe...
And this is all sans assembler, custom cores, proper unlocking of the second processor, and no direct use of the 2D accelerator?
And it runs -this- well?
wow, seems like it's already blowing the PSP PSX effort out of the water--thank you 'proper tools'. I'd love to put myself on that 'preorder' list to get my GP2x asap, but unfortunately I'm moving as of 27 dec, and with preorder lists, who knows when they'd ship that thing.

though triton knows about it (and is the only one that cares) I'll link to the modest, but growing compatability list. Just a reminder, I'm still thinking we're talking about 'without sound.'

Sound, surpizingly is one of the hardest things to emulate and generaly emulators for systems come out with "no sound" versions to up the compatability. But I don't know, FF games arn't the same without their amazing music.

The GP2x seems to have been able to get off to a good start with the emu, but thats mostly because it's open sourced and linux based, the PSP runs on it's own OS, making it much harder to code stuff for. Not to mention sony hates homebrew, with a passion, compleetly the opposit of nintendo who seems to almost encurrage homebrew.
