Total Rant about college

Well this is a total rant about college.

I have 6 months left of high school and it's getting to the point where i'm starting to feel the pre-college jitters, now im not going for almost a year yet tho it has managed to raise my stress levels enough to have it in the back of my mind almost every moment of the day.

Now normally something like college wouldn't worry me, it's just another step in the big proses... but... i'm not going to any old college, i'm going to the Vancouver Film School to study 3D Animation & Visual effects. This is one of the best schools in Canada and draws students from all over the world to study.

The real part that scares me is the fact that im gonna need to drop about 45 grand on this endever. $29,500 on the tuition and $15000 on housing for the year. I have all the money I need so im not gonna be paying anything off, it's just the idea of spending my parents hard earned education money and it's all in my hands.

I live on the other side of the country from Vancouver so when I go it's gonna be a big change, my grandparents and cousins and stuff live there so it's not that big of a problem.

Oh well I guess theres nothing much for me to do but wait.

Yeah I'm going to ITT Technical Institute in June. (probably go for an Associates' in network engineering) What really pisses me off is thta I am currently multiplying decimals in CONSUMER MATHEMATICS!

I SHOULD be taking a more advanced class, such as pre-calc. But the school I go to is very small and none of the teachers are qualified to teach anything harder than Algebra II, which I finished last year! So I'm going to spend 4 hours, 3 days a week catching up on math over the course of half the summer. Ah well, the easy As are pulling my GPA up.

Ironically I'm doing the best in English class. Then math then science then history. (gym doesn't really count for much; all we basically do is play capture-the-flag or football or basketball.) It's mostly composition, and to be honest typing out posts like this helps a lot with keyboarding and garmmar. Because me need real good english comp skills.

The science/technology classes are really simple too. One project was an LED board of the civil war, where you press a button and a light lights up. They wanted to do all sorts of fancy timer circuits and all that jazz, but I just told them, it would be cheaper to use LEDS and SPST momentary switches.

And now we're biulding a CRYSTAL RADIO! *bum bum buummmm* Ooh SOOO HARD! I have no clue how to wrap wire around an old hydrogen peroxide bottle! And the telephone handset is SOOO challenging! </sarcasm> To most of the class, it's something new they haven't done before. Well power to them them; I've made crystal radios for a while now. Oh well it gives me a chance to play around with my SUSE live CD on a really fast PC. (SUSE kicks major arse!

Well couldn't you just stay with you're family? Or rent a house and pay that off then have other people rent the house and stay there with you to earn some extra money

Most people get that fun little nervous feeling durring those last few months of highschool before going to college.
Just think of it this way, you've got 6 months left, live it up.
Don't focus on the money aspect, money sucks and doesn't deserve to be worried about.
When you move to Vancouver you will have relatives there, you'll most likely get plenty of chances to go home for various reasons, and it's time spent on your own. It's one of those, no parents, but no parents situations, it's a bit scary, but you'll love it.
Just relax, and hold the fact that you're relaxed over your friends, cause they'll be nervous.

Fine, fine loup all's fair I haven't even gotten out of middle school yet so...I don't really know anything about housing. But renting or buying a pad and having some friends rent out some stuff would bring in extra money a month. Unless you can't afford it then stick to the dorms.

You're housing on campus? That gets expensive. You'd be better off renting somewhere. At the co-op where I am, you can get a 3 bedroom/2 bathroom/3 story townhouse for under $900/month. Utilities aren't included, and you need your own furniture, but with that much room, you can get some room mates to help pay the rent. We also have 2 bedroom places for about $700/month. We're in Burnaby, so it means a bit of commuting, but we're only about 5 minutes away from the skytrain, so it's not too hard to get around. There's other cheap places around too.

I'm sure once I get to BC i'll be fine, but i'm gonna be such a wreck the week before I catch my plane lol

Unfortunatly at VFS i'll most likly be spending a good deal of my nights there till 1 or 2 am tweaking my reel. VFS states that you should get within walking distance, so im gonna be spending around 700/month on a 1 bedroom unfernished appartment, it's expencive, but thats what you get for living in the West End. I have the money so it's no problem.

Ooooh! Ooooh! My turn for a rant!

My school charges you $45 per semester to park in their lots. They have a few: one in the back of the school, one in the front, and one across the street in the back (the worst lot there, by far) So, you'd think that they would adjust pricing a little for those with the crappy lot, wouldn't you? No, not at this school. Nevertheless, I need a permit so I can go to another school for a different class in the middle of the day (and I still have to pay for the permit

)

Today, I forgot to put up my little permit card thingy that hangs on the rearview mirror. I'd keep it up full time, but there's a state law against having anything hanging from a rearview mirror, fuzzy dice and all. So, I get to my car, and I see the dreaded yellow ticket. Not because I'm parked in the wrong lot, but because I didn't put my permit up. They have my license plate on file, but my permit wasn't up, so now it's costing me a good $15, money that I was going to spend on Christmas presents. (and not for me, neither) If this was my second time, it would have been $30. If my third or more, $45 (the cost of a new permit

) I'm going to try to fight this on monday, that's a bit ridiculous IMO.

bicostp, I know exactly how you feel. I so incredably bored in my math class my mark is dropping... (At least im getting a 93

Anyway, one thing that really bothers me in school is morons. (Dont they bug us all...) Anyway, more specifically, Im good at math. I dont brag about it (please excuse this paragraph...) but everyone that knows me thinks Im a "math god" or something. Its really stupid. For example. During this pass week, in math class, my teacher is taking up the homework we did the day before (it took me about 10 minutes to do.) Anyway, Im finished, and Im working on an assignment my teacher also assigned. So Im working away, and out of the blue, my teacher asks me a question. As I wasnt paying attention a bit (its about going from the form y=ax^2+bx+c to y=a(x-p)^2+2, dead easy stuff) so naturally, I have no idea what the heck he;s talking about. Anyway, I say I have no clue what to do next as he wont repeat the question, and then came the comments. Half the class was going "ha, what in idiot, this is so easy." Right there and then I felt like I should scream at them about being such idiots... But as far as Im concerned, people are morons, I figured it wasnt worth the trouble. What really gets annoying is when people think you're perfet at everything (which Im most definatly not) then when you make a slight mistake, such as when your working on something they couldnt dream at doing with a passing grade, then say you're a moron...

Overall, I think the human race, if it follows it current path, it quite doomed. Anyway that all...

HK-47, one of my friends is like you (or at least has the same social/intelligence state) the entire thinks he's a math wiz and make fun of him if he messes up or doesn't do his homework. Me myself think the human race as a whole is doomed. But I go by what my grand father says "I hate people I like persons".

I think someone here with some php know how should add a rant button.

I'm not like anyone else here it seems (or not like most of you anyways). I'm horrible in math, English and any other academic subjects, but I strive in computer oriented classes and art.

Everyone thinks I'm a genius but I'm just an average guy, most of my math marks are in the 60s-70s range, tho for some reason my English mark is a 90% at the moment... very weird.

What's even wierder is the fact, Im doing better in religion than english. In religion, I dislike the teacher, and she dislikes me, but I actually try in english. Funny how things work out that way. (Well, Im only doing 1% in religion than english... (83 vs. 82))
