Re: theres too much bad nois on the REV

Whats so bad with the Revolution that all over forums and the web there is only people talking about how much they hate it. And most people post flame on the Rev without even doing the research first; so I'll tell you what I like and hate of the REV, and Iv'e done the reasearch too so I know what I'm talking about.

Controller
The Rev controller I think is one of the best ideas in video game history, they're not just remaking the Gamecube with better hardware and releasing games that we'll just get sick of in a few weeks. They're adding a whole new type of gameplay to the scene; and this isn't something that we'll get sick of in just a few months. This is something so new that we might never get tired of it. Oh and one important piont. They are releasing a shell for the controller that looks just like the gamecube controller. So your not just getting this whole new gameplay but we also keep the old way too. This is what most don't know.

Graphics
Nintendo has annonced that the graphics will be the same or better then all other consoles so don't worry about this. The HDTV thing won't happen till 2008 and I seriously doubt everybody gets a new TV every year so don't worry about this either. And I really won't mind much to buy an adapter for it. and HD support might still be implimented.

Kiddy Image
All should know that Nintendo is going to lose their Kiddy image ex: the more adult games they're making and the new Rev design are big examples. and they say that they're are going to make more games directed to older gamers. So more games like Resi 4 and the like, the new Zelda game and the new parental code lockouts for adult games are big evidence of this. So be at rest, they said they wan't to target all age groups.

Other Notes
You all should like to know that Nintendo is actually making a very smart desision. Without the hype of the new innovative designs and gamplay the next Nintendo console would just be another graphics pushing machine that offers gamers nothing that they can't get in an xbox 360; and they would slowly fade off into the history books like sega and atari before them. They're making their last move, and they're gonna make it a big one, one that could win the markett or lose it. Because they're defiantly goning to lose it if they do nothing. They have the money to do it and the backup money, so if they do end up losing it at least they will still be in business. They really have nothing to lose. Oh and by the way they are not losing their developers, believe it or not they are actually gaining developers because of their new controller.

If you have questions ask them, because I can probably answer them.

hope you like this
he has a point, why make another machine just like the one you are trying to beat...

I think a lot of people aren't taking the HDTV transition very seriously. A few months ago my trusty 30-something inch CRT TV finally died a slow agonizing death. I went and priced lots of different sets and was suprised at how expensive some of the regular old (but nice) CRT sets were. I'm looking at plasmas and LCD's now, but a lot of these aren't true HDTV monitors either.

As a stopgap I went to the thrift store and bought another 30-some inch CRT (NTSC-J) so I can play old school famicoms in my living room, I use the tuner in my VCR to send my crappy "americable" via AV lines to the TV. I'm waiting for the prices to drop some more which they should do any year now.

If I had the ambition to save up 1500 dollars, I'd get a 30" or whatever HDTV, but for that money I can build my custom arcade cab, a dual-19"-LCD monitor set-up, and a few DS games. I find the latter to be a better deal, no?

I think that Nintendo could crush Microsoft and regain a lot of ground on Sony IF THEY DID THE FOLLOWING.
1. Continued to market games to kids
2. Began marketing games to adults (There needs to be heavy advertising and several good adult marketed titles at launch) Start an advertising campaign about it being the console for everyone. Have a commercial with a 5 year old playing Pokemon then have his 20 year old brother come in and start shooting things on a mature game and then have mom and dad come play Mario Party and market it as the cnsole for everyone.
3. A Final Fantasy title at launch. This is unlikely but if it happened it would be huge.

With Nintendo's strangle hold on the younger category if they began heavily marketing it to adults as well it would sell to both age groups.

quick question. If the revolution isn't going to have hard drive support, how will the "retro games" download thing work? Will they go on a memory card? Will you have to subscribe to a service to be able to play them? How would that work?

Well you have to pay for them. And i think it might work through emulation.. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong)

that doesn't exactly answer my question, I understand that you will have to pay for them, but is it a subscription service where you are playing over internet, or are you actually downloading the games to the machine with them somehow stored on the machine, and if it is stored what is it using for storage if it doesn't have a hdd?

It might stream the game to your RAM everytime you go to play, or have it stored in a memory card.

There is (or was when the first facts were released) 512mb onboard flash memory, and an SD slot, the games will probably download to the one the user chooses.

well, nes games are pretty small, but they get larger for snes and n64, you would only be able to stuff a hand full of n64 games in 512mb

Ok, to clear up some confusion here

NES games - from 64KB to 768KB
SNES games - from 512KB to 6MB
N64 games - from 8MB to 64MB (mostly around 16MB though.)
