They do sell them at lower the cost of production. They rely on games and accessories to help make up by making there own and collecting royalty fees from other vendors.xxxeagle wrote:I dont think sony sells the psp or ps2 at a loss becuase they might at first but once they develop a good way to mass produce and perfect there process it costs them a lot less than what they sell it for.
I'm boycotting Sony, who's with me?

xxxeagle is right! Most of the profit-margin arguements seem to completely disregard the laws of macro-economy: when you buy hundreds of thousands of the same part (AKA, an LCD screen or CPU), the cost per unit drops dramatically. This drop may be just a few dollars, or greater than 50% of the original price!
On could argue that good graphics are an indicator of the Potential for good gameplay. A machine that can make beautiful visuals must have the system performance to do so, and system performance translates to better AI, larger levels, and more in-depth environment interactions. All of these things can only be implemented when you have sufficient processor and graphics capabilities.
That being said, the PS3 has the Potential for far greater games then both the Xbox360 and the Nintendo Revolution. If I bought any of these systems, it would be the 360 for its nice array of current and upcoming games, and a price-point that will most likely drop below that of the PS3 when it is released.
Just my two cents.
