Aside from the whole diabolical deviousness factor being discussed in this thread, I really don't know why some people are bashing the PS3 before it's even been released. I'm very much excited about this system and seeing the new games that will be released to play on it. For my personal situation, the fact that you will be able to do much more with the system entertainment-wise than just play games sounds great. Pretty soon, I'll be out of college and truly living on my own. Much like when the PS2 was released and lots of people bought it because it not only played games but also was a DVD player, I'll probably buy one at a reduced price in a few years as one of the main components for my tv/dvd/game/entertainment system. THEN I'll work on buying some furniture and stuff

I hate sony now. I am still sucked in by their awesome speed of the PS3, but no used or rented games, theres gonna be a ton of people who won't buy it. On the other hand, however, the vast majority of people wont find out until after theyve bought it. I know its stealing from the artists when you pirate music, but theyre so rich it doesnt matter (its like the saying goes, the rich keep getting richer, and the poor keep getting poorer). I buy 95% of my games used, because I dont have a job. Also, you cant return a game, because it will be formatted to your system (at least I think so). Any petitions that I could sign?

well I did a search on it, and found a bunch of yahoos saying the same thing as that. But when I skimmed the referenced patent, I found nothing to indicate that was the way they were going:1. PS3 DRM
Yes, this is not a confirmed "feature" but they have spent acutal money on the patent for this. What this will do is allow you to use your games on only one system, the first one it is put in. That means that all of the random times you may want to use a game in an other system, you can't. This occurs more often than you may think. To start, no going to friend's houses with just your game, but your whole console, even if you both have one. No used games. No used systems. If your system breaks, so do your games (and given sony's record for things breaking easily, I wouldn't be surprised to see this happen)
Linky
does somebody feel like actually reading that and telling me how they're ending the used video game market forever? Honestly I saw many other directions that could go. If it's in there, please just point it out to me, as I quickly tired of reading that.
if you want to talk about ending the used video game market, I stopped buying any new sega products after Sega released Phantasy star onine on DC, and I was foolish enough to buy one used. After being told (by sega's support) where I could stick that game, I gave up on the dreamcast. Don't get me wrong, I love DC. I own 3 and most good games, but I prefer buying used or *STEALING* now as not to give sega any more money. I'm great at holding a grudge.

I have hated sony since they released the psp
Its really sad that they though they could beat Nintendo in sales when the DS actually sold twice as more
Sony should die...I'm a pro Nintendo/Microsoft person.......Just today at skool people were saying the PS3 will kill the 360 and the revolution...that will never happen. Nintendo has been around so long...nothing can kill it, and Microsoft, they have infinate money, to make sure their systems wont die. An example: When the Xbox was first made, it would cost $750.00 to make, and when they sold it....it was like $150-200...see what i mean..........So, who else hates sony and think they are little devils

Jeez all this copy protection...
This will put Blockbuster out of the PS3 buisness, you won't be able to swap bad discs with another copy after you use them...
Dang...
I'll speak up against that particular copy protection idea, but Sony makes some quality hardware once they get it right.

A few days ago we reported on a rumor that suggested that Sony could be using a new DRM (Digital Rights Management) system to prevent people from playing second hand games on their PS3. Sony has now commented on the rumor, confirming that the newly patented DRM system will not be used in the PS3.
"I would like to clarify that this is false speculation and that PlayStation 3 software will not be copy protected to a single machine but will be playable on any PlayStation 3 console," said a Sony Computer Entertainment Europe spokesperson.

I already have been for well over two years. Along with boycotting Disney and Microsoft. All three are doing quite evil deeds. Disney and Sony together payed senators BILLIONS to change copyright laws. Disney isn't as "family friendly" as they say. Microsoft is just plain evil and cares more about profit than product quality (yes this is true, I talked with someone who had an interview to work for them, after the interview, he would have been hired, but he no longer wanted to work for them). And there are also many other reasons.

Yeah most of the money made through record sales goes to the company that the artist is signed under. They make less then $1 a record if that, and mosto f their money and music is locked or taken by the company.Mr. Cool wrote:I know its stealing from the artists when you pirate music, but theyre so rich it doesnt matter (its like the saying goes, the rich keep getting richer, and the poor keep getting poorer).
The whole your taken money from the artist this is bull. Song sales on iTunes are not the same price as a CD. And further if you can make professional music on a damn Mac mini, then all the bull about the money invested into recording the album is a lie.
But seriously I'm more horrified that Sony would put that damn DRM on CDs, without informing the artist or the consumer. They denie, they make it impossible to find the patch, have you register to get the patch and their VP or whatever said that most people dont know what a root kit is and so dotnn worry about it. This is something that is unforgivable, I dont care their reason. What they essentally did was walk into your hourse and install a new door that looks like a wall that aloes them to come and go and potentilly let crackers in.

So are you going to back up this opinion with facts or are you just going to spew more anti-fanboyism? (hint: the latter will get you flamed to a crisp.gamemasterAS wrote:sony sucks
