building an mp3 player

i was thinking about building an mp3 player, i have already done a variation of the nintendo portable and have a spare board could i take a flash mp3 player desolder the buttons and connect using that lovely hdd wire the buttons from the nintendo controller?

just an idea

yeah i made one like that awile back got stolen the day it was finished. (d-pad volume and song select, a-b pause-play select/start nothing) didnt have a screen, but some one gave me a second one right after but it had a screen and i didnt want to cut holes in the front of the controller.

not to sound like an poop egress, but building an Mp3 player is not reliable as buying one. Dont get me wrong, this isnt a pro-ipod post! What im saying is, you can get small flash based MP3 player with SD/MMC support for about $40 (plus the cost of a card). You also dont have to worry about the thing looking like crap, or anything blowing out as you work with it. The only reason i say this is back when Sound Recorder kits were new, a bunch of of friends decided to get them and make stuff with them. None of them lasted too long. They spent WAY too much money on them. They could have just biugh a cheap CD player (mp3 wasnt poerable then) put their sounds (not music) on a CD, add a small poerable amp, and it would have lasted longer.

Im not questioning your skills, im just sayin' "be careful, if anything goes wrong, you are out a lot of $$". Even if the whole project costs $40, if it dies, thats $40 down the drain. Not many of the parts can be salvaged for other stuff. Maybe the buttons, and battery holder... not worth that kind of dough in my opinion.

Foxx I think he means he is going to rewire a storebought mp3 player into a nes controller.

I've heard the pin pitch on the decoder chip isn't that bad (the PIC chip may be though.)

my mate has an ipod shuffle that he doesn't really want, i went on the net and the inside on a shuflle would almost perfectly fit the buttons of a nes controller, however there is one in the middle like so




when the button film is taken off the ipod we are left some contacts if i got tact buttons and placed them on the contacts would the controls still work?



what would happen if i soldered wire onto the contacts and then connected that up to tact switches somewhere else?

i would go and try this myself but i dont really have a background in electronics and really want to break the shuffle

i do want to take it apart but i was wondering if i solder a wire to one of the contacts then connect the wire to a tact switch whteher that would fucntion function as a button

does anyone know if i would work?
