yeah. i was only looking in the "high current" section before. i assumed low current would be no good.
but its all realative. the low current 6000mAh one (or should i say 6Ah) can still output 6A. wow. 25 bucks. thats awesome.
im on the solar car team at my university (McMaster, in ontario), and we power the car with li-ion batteries. theres a couple spares lying around that i was just going to "borrow" when i make my 64p... as well as dc-dc converters, microcontrollers... capacitors. resistors. LEDs, inductors, hard drives. its like nerd heaven.
i mean techncially im not really allowed to take it. but theres so much of everything that no one would notice.

I want the portable to last at the very least for 4 hours, so I am thinking that six of those batteries organized into a single source (three of them in parallel being in series with the other three in parallel) would deliver that. Or would this be a bit too much? I am not too concerned about the price, since I'm willing to pay more if it will allow me to actually use the portable practically, without the inconvenience of constant recharging.
Also, would the one charger be enough for this setup? The charger says it can handle up to 4 batteries (with the 16.8V setting), but that is assuming that the 4 batteries are in series, right? I would think that the 8.4V setting is what would only be needed, but I'm not especially familiar with setting up power supplies. I'd also assume that a PCB would be needed, but I'm having trouble determining which one I would need:

first of all, someone else found some better batteries on that same site. i had only been looking in the "high current" section, but it turns out that "low current" isnt really that low at all. so yeah. someone else posted a link to a 6,000mAh one that is only $25, on the same site.

if you choose lithium batteries, you really have to know what you are doing. you cant just throw them on a charger and leave them, because they will <b>explode.</b> you also cannot use them until they are completely dead, because next time you charge them, yes, they will <u>explode</u>.
you need what is called a "protection circuit" to prevent this from happening. it basically cuts them off when the voltage goes outside safe parameters. the batteries on that site dont have them, but they are sold separately (same site) for like 6 bucks. make sure you know what you are getting into before you order anything.
