Doesn't the Xbox 360 just SUCK power like nobody's business?

Sorry folks, without cold fusion or hydrogen fuel cells, the 360 may be portable-less.

Just get two 12v 7000mah lead-acid batteries and hook them in parellel. You might get 2 hours of time that way!

(Portable, as in 'carrying a backpack' portable)

Well an Xboxp isn't that far off... Take a car battery, voltage regulators, soney screen, xbox (of course), controller, and my bookbag. Play it on the bus! Or anywhere else. If you can manage to haul around about 40+ pounds.

Car batteries hold, IIRC, a couple hundred amps. You will definitely fry any electronic component directly attatched to it.

Hooking a car battery up to a 7805 will likely result in regulator a la flambe. Xbox? All the traces would likely be melted due to the resistance they have. Why do you think car battery wires are thicker than the circumfrence of a nickel?

OOHH, well I'll have to find another power source. But still the xboxbkbag, as I now call it, is not too far off. But that'll mean that I'll need another bookbag to haul my books unless... My xbox contains all of my books as files!

Car batteries won't fry anything attached to them. They have a large current potiential as you mentioned but anything you connect will only draw as much current as needed (I've hooked up my Dreamcast VMU to a 6v lantern battery, no problems at all.)
However linear regulators will draw loads of current (haha pun), but who would bother with them? Just use a switching regulator

Also, you wouldn't use a car battery, because you need a deep-cycle lead acid battery. Golf cart and marine batteries are excellent for this.

(You can only drain car batteries about 40% before they short out internally, but with deep cycle batteries you can discharge them about 70% without problems.)
This means that a 7AH lead acid battery is effectively only useful for about 5AH.

I know a good bit about lead-acid batteries because most of my house runs on them

xbox != xbox360. You might as well say "a PS2p is almost impossible, so a PSTwop is going to be the same as well!" I haven't seen the innards, but I remember someone telling me that it's extremely light, and that it even has a laptop hard drive. The main concern is cooling, which the lack thereof can cause big instabilities in the system (crashing, etc.)

The only reason the wires that you see in a car are super thick, is because you're probably looking at the main wires coming off the batteries, which are thick because they need to accommodate the power line for the distributer and spark plugs. A lot of wires under the hood of a car are large, but just like other batteries, the power is used as needed, not given as expected. Somebody posted a link earlier to a 12V 17Ah lead acid battery that was only $40.

A piece of useless information: if the alternator in your car goes, the battery will stop charging, and only last about 15 minutes from full charge(less if you're jamming to some tunes). This gives you an idea of how much power your car requires.
