Compsite to C-Sync via S-Video Out... LCD to VGA... Or PC!
Ok, i found an easy circuit diagram to change composite video, or yellow RCA) to C-sync for the Psone... Well, I have a Xfx GeForce 6600 256MB card, and its complete with S-Video output... Does an S-video output have an embedded composite line? Like built in? If so, couldn't I pull the composite line into the composite - C Sync circuit, then output this C-Sync into my PSone C Sync input? Given I have RGB, and grounds too? Duh?
Basically, change composite output on S-video out to C sync into PSone LCD... All the other lines, RGB and ground off the VGA output? Thanks,
Kyle

Well, after finding a pinout for S Video, theres no DEFINITE composite, but the is a Sync...

Pin #3... Y Intensity (Luminance) 75 Ohms 1V incl. Sync
Is this Sync, C Sync? If so, I could just link this Sync to my Psone's C Sync and appropriate RGB and ground to VGA connection?

I dont fully understand how you want to accomplish this... How are you going to take a Composite signal from the computer to create the Sync you need? The C-Sync signal needs to come from the VGA port of the PC and go to the screen. You wont get proper video if you use a C-Sync signal from any other place. If you allready have Composite on your computer, just plug that into the screen, if you have S-Video, you can do the S-Video mod to the PSone screen and get better video. If your VGA port has all the Sunc signals you need, and Powerstrip will get the right timings, you can use that.
Composite is S-Video with the Luma and Chroma tied together. If you need Composite just tie the 2 lines together and add the right connector.
To get the screen working as RGB, you need to get all the signals from the VGA port. You cant use the S-Video or Composite for Sync signals...
This might help you out... http://www.hardwarebook.net/connector/av/vga15.html
If you are just using the screen for Media, like DVDs and music, just use Composite or S-Video. Even if you get RGB working, the screen is too small to work with all the time. The text is really small and interlaced. You also might have some "copyright protection" issues if you dont put your video card in the right modes. The card/OS might think you are trying to copy a DVD to a recording device (like a VCR).

See, now I feel dumb... The pic shows the luma and chroma going to certain places on the LCD controller... easy! And then it shows the luma going to ANOTHER place on the board? Should I run 2 lines like the pics come across? This would be a +5v line, correct? And whats that second red wire in the second pic next to the luma line? Its been a long time since I worked with a Psone LCD, and I don't even have my new one yet. I just need a little help to get me going again... Last thing... This is all I should need to get decent pic quality from my computer desktop right? I won't need Power Strip now, since its basically compsoite, right? Sorry if all this has been discussed. I mainly confused by the pics a little...
Any video source the PSOne screen can use, weather its VGA, S-Video, or Composite, its going to be 0.75V.
Composite is an S-Video signal with luma and Chroma tied together. All you are doing is hooking into the part of the LCD Controller that accepts the Luma and Chroma seperately. If you hook into the controller and tire both Luma and Chroma together, you get Composite.
If your computer has Composite, just use that. If it only has S-Video, make it into composite by using the Luma and Choma together and putting it to the Screens Composite input.
If you are not confident in your soldering skills, or how to do the S-Video mod, i highly suggest you take the easy way out and use Composite. The instructions for the S-Video mod are really self explanitory, and if you cant understand them, dont try it.

Forgot one thing. I'm going to be using the screen for two reasons... One, to view my desktop... 2. to connect somehting like Ps2, gamecube, VCR, etc... I don't remember if the PSone LCD will automatically switch from one input to the compsoite input when it detects a signal. For some reason I remember my Psone LCD showing the Psone browser when on, but when I turned my dreamcast on at the same time, that was plugged into the 1/8" AV IN plug, the LCD would switch over... Thats what I want to happen when I hit power on my PS2 or something when the desktop is on the screen. I think i have to bridge two connections on the LCD's AV board. Been a long time...
I cant help you there, i dont have an original PSOne screen. You can use a headphone jack with internal switch to select the signals. Basically you hook the PC/PSone into the switch side of the jack, and when you plug in a heaphine jack, it switches over to whatever signal is on that jack. Or just use a SPDT (Single Post Double Throw) switch as a simple A/V selector.

I remeber how to do that auto-siganl switch... I just gotta short to pins together. What it does is... The screen will stay of until it detects a signal, not switch from one to oter. To switch from one to the other, you have to have the LCd connected to the PSone, and have the secodn device turn-on, but hooke dup through the AV IN. Even if the Psone system was on, the LCD would automatically switch over. If that doesn't hapen, then yes, a SP/Dt switch will be my answer. I'll be converting my spare 5 1/4" drive bay to have brightness,a nd compsoite IN controls... Why not LCD power, and AV slector too!? Thanks,
Kyle
