Pentium 300mhs Runs Windows XP

My laptop that i just got had windows 98se installed but i wanted something more so i put windows xp pro in it and it actually ran it better than it ran 98. *weird* and my friends like it shouldnt even start xp. I am not overclocking it either. i was just like wow that a 300 mhz ran xp.

Maybe it has a lot of RAM or a big hard drive.

I ran XP on a Cyrix 166mhz with 64mb ram. As long as you turned off the eye candy it worked great!

I should try that on my P2 333mhz w\ 320mb pc133 sdr @pc100 (mobo limitations) and geforce 2 mx. That thing has just been sitting behind my current rig for months doing nothing. Maybe ill make it into SNES box running an emulator and hooked up to my TV

it has 128 mb ram and a 4gb hd. but it seems to run just fine it even plays vcds without a hitch.

I loaded XP Pro to a P-MMX 166MHz with 80MB RAM. It isn't hard.

I'm more impressed with some of the Linux distributions out there.

My dad got a P2 from his friend with XP Pro on it, I dont know the clock speed, I think it has like 96MB RAM. Regardless, the 5 minutes I spent on it, I saw no problems.

my old PC (the one that kerpoded) was pentium II 400mhz nd 96mb ram and it ran windows 2000 slowly

It doesn't take that much to run xp the reccomend processor is 166mhz but I have a freind in school that is running it on a 133mhz processor and it runs pretty good too.

Actually the mentioned (by Microsoft) minimum requirments are 233MHz PII with 64MB ram. But the recommended are PII 500MHz with 128MB ram (SD ram).

I'm supprised you guys got it running on a Pentium Pro, those topped out as 266MHz and really I didnt think Microsoft would keep the drives for that hardware in there.

Ive gotten win98 down to a 25MB install, and it ran like a DREAM on a 266Mhz MMX machine with 64MB ram and 4GB HDD.

You guys ever install 2k on a P4 2ghz machine? It FLIES!

(Had to wipe a machine at school, all I had was2k at the time.)

The slowest PC at school is a 200mhz P1 machine running 98 SE, loaded with adware. IE has become unusable (all the stupid average user knows exists. fools.

) due to all the popups and "browser helper" toolbars on it. It can't access the control panel, the D hard drive, or any network service other than the Internet. I'm wiping it and installing 98 on it eventually (read: when I feel like it

You know it's possible to install Mac OS X original (first post-beta release) on any Power Mac down to a PowerMac 7500? (made in 1995/6) It just needs software patches.

I used to have Windows 3.1 installed on a P2 400 box. That was pretty quick...
