XBox 360 controller plugs right into XP PC and works

Post by benheck »

A friend of mine doesn't have the 360 yet (all sold out) but already bought a controller. Wired kind.

Thing is, it's just a plain Jane USB connector on the end. The original XBox controller was USB as well but with a different plug.

So I plugged it into my XP laptop, told it to find drivers, and wham - XBox 360 controller detected!

I've tried it with some emulators, works great! The main analog stick works as a standard D-pad. I didn't even have to remap the buttons for the NES!

This would be a pretty cool PC joystick, despite it's $40 to buy one (yes the wired one is $40-shoring-up-the-money-loss-on-systems-dollars)

Just thought I'd let people know! Have fun!

It looks like a nice controller, probably the best thing about the 360. If the price drops to like 25, or if a 3rd party releases the same style controller for 25, I'll consider buying.

Yeah I read about this somewhere before I think it was designed to work on windows. I was thinking it would be sweet when halo comes out for pc.

Edit: Here's a link to an article. I wonder if similar pc controllers will work with the 360?[/url]

OMFGIZZLE!

Ben's lieing!

He's not really playing a VCS emu with the controller.

He's got the prototype Xbox 360 laptop, and he's playing MS Pacman 1980's Console edition on the Xbox Live Arcade!

Damnit Ben, give us the 360 lappy!

I hope my computer runs Halo 2 better than Halo CE... Halo CE runs fine in the cut scenes and all the non combat elements of the game, but as soon as you get into a battle (and this only happens in single player, it all runs smooth in multyplayer) everything starts to do into slow motion and the Battle Rifle starts fireing at the same speed as the pistol  It does this if my settings are all turned down or all turned up, I have no idea how to fix it, might just be my Nivida Card.
