Am I Crazy?

Post by sydney075 »

Behold the craziest thing to portablize since the xbox. A Sun SPARCServer 1000e with raid array.

To put the size in perspective that is a quarter in the first picture leaning against the raid array.

Okay, Okay. I'm not really portablizing it that can't really be done but it is really cool because I got it for free. The system is only 6 years old and has 8 cpus with 1.5 gig of ram. The raid array has 10 9.1 gig drives and the server itself has another 8 drives inside, of what size I am not quite sure yet. I have managed to brig the server online using tera term and comunicate commands but, I haven't been able to figure out file transfer to it yet. My goal is to put blender 3d on it so I can use it for rendering.

*****WARNING******
For those who did not read above I am not really portabilizing this.

What OS are you using with it? Not all operating systems support multi-CPUs, and few support 8.

I know the best of the four versions of WIN2K can, though...
Warranty-Voiding fun!

@Unidentified Assilant: You should see the ups backup can anyone say BIG battery.

@mm007: At them moment it is running solaris as that was what it was installed with and I plan to only run blender in cmd line format. And as far as I can tell blender does support 2 thread rendering. Which once I get that working I will be setting up yafray which supports multiple cpus.

@benheckc: Yeah I noticed the same thing when you posted you picture of the atari 800 laptop. You had it sitting on your laptop. :)

My main problem right now is just trying to transfer files to the system as I don't know much about unix based systems.
