I have come to the conclusion that it is the Halogen bulb I am using.
-It's too hot-
-The color temperature has an orange tint
-And it's not bright enough!
I think I'll design a totally new enclosure with a MH bulb for brightness.
Radon, where did you get your MH bulb?

I just got it at a local store. If you don't mind useing a big assed bulb (12" long and about 4" across) then get out the phone book and ask around. The one I have is a Sylvania M400/U.
Are you useing a S-video connector? If you are useing the X-boxes stock cable with component the image is gonna look like crap, mind you tho, s-video still isn't crystal clear, it's just one of the problems with useing a converter.

That's great to know. It saves me from having to order anymore stuff from the dreaded DIY Projector company.
I'm thinking about making better enclosure with custom optics and a MH bulb.
BTW, here is my finished projector:

this is the finished device:

That's it for now, and the project was a success!
However I will probably overhaul and redesign this over Christmas break

If all else fails, take it apart!
If you do upgrade your bulb you will need to build a new enclosure, Halogen bulbs don't put out a lot of UV light but MH ones do, about 70% of it is blocked by the glass around the quarts filiment in the bulb itself but that 30% is still enugh to make you feel sick and get a sunburn if you get in the way of any light leaking out of the bulb (and if you get enugh sun burns it can lead to skin cancer down the road
). The light coming out of the end of the box is ok, it's been through a UV filter that cuts down about 20% more UV than a frensle LCD frensle sandwitch that cuts down a lot since the LCD is made of glass and UV can't penitrate glass very well. Then it finaly goes through the 3 layers of glass in the triplet. Needless to sya there should be almost no UV coming out the end. My box is so well sealed I lose about 0.5% to 1% of the light out of my fan hole. Almost not enugh to be able to see with the naked eye.
