Open ports 6881-6884 to let bittorrent download/upload.

i have no idea what ports 6881-6884 are. where and how do i open them?

For me I have a Linksys, I login to the router. Then I get to the applications tab and enter waht ports the firewall to open: port 6881 thru 6884.

See, newbies? This is a great example of having a valid reason for bumping a topic. He had a valid question and needed an answer. If you bump a thread like this, that's (usually) OK. Seeders are people that you download off of. Even though their torrent is completely downloaded, their torrent window is still open so other people can download the file. If seeders are at 0, you won't be able to completely download the file. The more seeders (and less downloaders) the faster the file will download.

You also download from other people that are currently downloading the file (e.g. if there are 12 people currently downloading the file along with you, you'll get some of the file from them, as far as their download has gone).

The pirate bay is cool mostly because they are in some europe country so they don't have to obey US copywrite laws. They have e-mails from big companys like Microsoft and Apple where they ask the pirate bay to take down the content and they just tell to get lost or they will take them to court for harassment...

i asked dad about the firewall blocking torrents and he said he specifically made it block torrents. so now the only thing to do is re-route the network to bypass the firewall (unless there's a software thing to do it). what i was thinking is something like this:

the problem is i'm no good at network stuff so i don't know if i'll have to reconfigure everything. i know how to to ipconfig/release and ipconfig/renew on windows but i don't know if that'll work and i can't get it to work on linux (family compy has linux). will that diagram work without having to reconfigure everything? if not, is there a thing that can let me bypass the firewall (i want something more reliable than a website like proxify or projectbypass) without re-routing stuff?

First thing, dont use a Hub, Hubs suck they'll know the speed down to 10mbp/s, get a Switch. Secondly it should work. Besure you have all other non essental ports closed to keep out intruders, and you have all the security updates. We all know that Linux distros are more secure then Windows by default but you can still be hacked so get those updates A.S.A.P!
