yay my LEGO GENSIS P portable is on PoD

Post by shadowhacker »

its in its begining stages anyways its a lego case housing a sega genesis i have it running off batterys at 12 volts i know its 3 volts over the usual 9volts that powers them but what can i say i needed to get rid of some flash light batterys. i know i will have to go with the AAs and a ps1 screen when i get it. oh and thanks to G-forces guide for an ondago for that is the path mine seems to be taking... yeah if any one has any tips or anything it would be nice

The PSone screen won't work at anything over 9V, so you'll need a 7808 between the screen and battery.

Where'd you get the idea the PSone screen requires 9v input? Its (on the manual) 7.5v, and even then you can put in anything so long as its 7v or more because the screen has 7805 regulators to reduce the power to 5v. The same goes for the Genesis, it didnt need all that voltage that was pumped in by the PSU, again you can give it a 7v input and it will run.

If I recall my early testing with the PSone screen correctly, it must be powered between 7.2 and 7.5 volts. And if my memory serves me right, 5 AA's will NOT provide enough voltage. As AA's use up their juice, their voltage output drops from 1.5 to 1.2 volts. That is a total output drop of 7.5 to 6.0 volts, not enough to power the screen. Use more batteries and a voltage regulator to control voltage.

whoops i didnt mean to write that it was 9volts not 7.5 srry about the mix up
and which would be better hip gear or ps1 screen? i think i am going to by all black pieces and mount the genesis logo to a pic and make it look as close as possible.

A lot of people have been able to power their PSone screens with almost 9V before things got screwy. I think the quality was slightly better around 7.5V, but they did get it working higher.

Like I said before, the most anybody has had it run properly on, is 9V, and that was only once or twice. You'll have to get a 7808 or other regulator/DC-DC convertor if you're using 12V.

Okay, I still doubt that it will work as high as 9V. You'll have to find a DC-DC convertor capable of the task.

You don't have to, since the screen has a backlight, but it drains a lot of power. With the LED mod, the screen draws about 350mAh, but without the mod it draws about 750mAh.
