Computer audio problems...

My computers volume works fine, but it wont play ANY Midi files. I'm wondering why I dont hear any sound, thought the file is playing

Ive got the audio drivers and everything, just wondering how to get this working.

That happened to me. I forgot how i fixed it though.. maybe i didn't...

There's a couple things that could be the problem..

First check the MIDI volume control in the Audio Mixer. It may be muted.

If changing that doesn't help, check the Sound and Multimedia Properties panel (Start/Control Panel/Sounds and Multimedia/click the Audio tab.) Make sure there's a MIDI mapper selected. If there is one, try selecting another, be it MS GS WaveTable or MIDI-MAPPER. (The former sounds better than the latter)

BTW I'm running Windows 2000, your computer may vary slightly.

Thanks! After messing with some of the options, I had to change the thing windows used for MIDI playback, and it worked.
You can lock it if you like,the question was answered.Though, I would save it for anyone with a similar question.

If you get a new mobo, be shure to configure the sound till it works! your audio drivers probably arent the problem!(like I thought)

I use midi all the time for composing, arranging, and working with my synth.

midis are usually the only way to listen to videogame music

.....oh, and as gannon said, they work quite well for composing and arranging your own videogame based music
