adding a little something extra...

Hi guys, I'm in the process of building a portable PS, and I'm going to follow everything out of Ben's book. But I'd like to make a little change.

I want my portable to still have the AV output jack so that I can still plug it into a TV. I've read through the entire part1 and the building a portable PS by hand sections, and there's no mention as to how one might be able to keep that functionality. I know this sounds a little silly, but I'm hacking the only one playstation I have, and would like a bigger screen when I can. Perhaps some the wiser and more seasoned portable builders can give me a few pointers?

I'm not that good with electronics and stuff but here's how I think I might do it, and fill free to correct me, thanks:

I basically keep the AV output jack, but still connect the PSOne screen wires to the board as stated in the book. And instead of jumping one of the power switches to always be on, I don't jump either of them, but have 2 separate switches; one for the playstation and one for the screen, that way the screen can be turned off when I'm playing on the TV. Does that sound possible? Thanks

heres what you do, you have an av out jack and the av cables to the screen you then just add a dpdt to the ground and then when you switch it it will select what output you use

Yeah, just connect one set of wires from the ps1 a/v out to the screen and one to the rca outs. Then add a switch for the screen so that the video signal doesnt get weak. Just shut off the screen when you want to use the outs. Adding the switch will also save you battery power if you ever want to hook it up to a tv on the road.

Sorry I forgot you wanted to keep the original out jack instead of using rca outs. Just hook up the screen to the a/v out off the board with a switch and shut it off when you want to use the original ps1 out put jack

you could just solder wires where ben says in the book for the video and leave the plug there that would be the easiest way no switches neccasary just have it display on both screen

Sorry to disapoint you, but there is quite a good chance that you are going to break your psone. I broke my ifrst three, and my ofurth is being fixed, most likeyly in vain. You can add that feature, but its inprobable that your first psone will survive.

what are you talking about, ofcourse it can survive! what you do is simply leave on the AV jack but if that puts it in an inconvenient location, just solder the RCA jacks to the AV wires like this

and have an extra power switch for the screen if you just want TV video. you can also add an extra power switch for the PSone if you want to use it as AV in too
