Though I dont like macs, OSX is by far their best operating system yet. It is pretty, even more than XP, but if you have a mac you constantly have to check that whatever software, games or things on the internet that you get are compatible with it. Windoes is easy, because almost everything works with it.

I think the people saying Macs suck are what I like to call (or make up for this conversation) "kids living in a school-mac-network society in which they dont belong." We have Macs in my school, but everything is so Mickey Moused, that everything runs like crap. Because of that, my friends, who are computer geeks, hate Macs. While I'm impartial to the company, it makes me sad/mad that the young'uns hate Macs because Plainville Highschool can't get it right.
EDIT -- And I'll probably be making a jump to SuSE in the near future, I just need to download the ISOs and burn them.

Oh where oh where to begin.
The Mac OS X does have a plain text editor just not one you'd recognize at first. They have the OS build on top of BSD which is a UNIX-like sytem, try going to the command prompt and typing in "vi" or "emacs" both are text editors and both are used by UNIX admins for making changes to system files, or programming. You'll need to know the commands to navigate the things too, they dont have file, edit and all the that (emacs maybe if its in graphical mode).
Madc0w, if you cant find a default paint program on the Mac OS, you can always install the Gimp. They have a port.
Now about the CPU. Biscostp was right, but most spacificly the PPC is a RISC based chip that means it works with simpler numbers (like basic arythmitic), well Intel which uses CRIC will do algebra and take a lot longer. Further you have more bandwidth with the PPC, it has 4 channels and one is deticated to complex calculations (like when your doing intensive CPU work) so it doesnt bog down the speed.
Apple choose the PPC because if was the best for performance. Intel still has a lot of legacy crap builtin from the 8bit era, and thats why they dont have the high end performance. Apple makes computers that worked well in video editing and audio, because they require high end machines to do so, same with Amiga in its day.
