back to irony...

Post by mattb419 »

As maybe a couple of you know, I am pretty excited about the release of xbox 360 in just about a week. I've been following this thing for quite a while, but I did not preorder one because I just didn't have the resources to pay for it at the time... so now I have saved up almost enough to get it, and I'm already planning out spending an entire day at wal-mart to get it... then I read on IGN that there is going to be a mass shortage of xbox 360 units, boo :(.
okay, I'll just get to the point. Has anyone heard about Zero Hour? http://www.xbox.com/en-US/community/news/zerohour.htm basically, it's a launch party where 3000 people get to party, play, and purchase the 360 a couple days early. Earlier this week, microsoft announced that it was giving away some tickets to the event, but the winners had to pay their own transportation/lodging/etc... I signed up for a goof.
Tonight I get my email... I won!!! Problem is that if I spend my money to get out there, I wouldn't have the cash to buy it.

Does that qualify as irony???

-Matt

edit: I've decided I'm going to try to go after all! :D

I'd say sell the ticket, you'd probably get some good cash, do like a three-day ebay auction, set the minimum for like 100 dollars.

I thought about that... but it's one of those deals where you have to present a picture ID to get in. You also have to confirm the ticket by sunday night at midnight, or they are forfeited :?

...I've determined that I'm looking at about $300 plus food costs if I were to go to this... so I'm going to see if I can maybe get the money (still highly unlikely though).

beg borrow or steal your way there i would say, borrow the cash from mom and dad or grandma/grandpa? dunno, that definatly qualifies as eitehr irony or a total catch 22

EDIT: if you do manage your way there and its telivised have a sign mentioning beheck, that would be über cool

I tried signing up for tickets, but I'm 2 years under age. You had to be atleast 18(or was it 19 or 21) to qualify, and since I'm 16, I'm SOL. tomorrow I'll call around, and see if any Canadian stores will have any on the 22nd. If they do, people can send me the money, and I'll buy some 360s, then post a video of me playing them!

Typical Microsoft. (product activation = ticket confirmation)

See if you can scrape up the cash for it. I think it's worth the effort because you'll get the 360 a few days earlier, so it's something to brag about. :P

Try asking for loans from relatives or friends or something. I know, it sounds kind of like begging, but do you really want to go to this party thing?

yeah, so after a few phone calls, an hour or so checking travel costs and such, I've decided I'm going to try to do this. It just sounds like too much fun to pass up :) I'll update this thread as I get more info, if anyone is interested. I'll also see if it would be possible to get a benheck.com t-shirt made (there will be tv crews there). Thanks to everyone for listening to my little mini-rant last night, no one around here was awake, and I just had to tell somebody!

Mabye you could get one done there, or just go to a craft store and get some IRON ON stuff. Like print it on the computer and Iron it on.

Like an ATARI next to the www.benheck.com or something.

I was thinking about the iron on stuff, that would be pretty easy to do, and fairly cheap. I figured I'd put the web site on there, and maybe find a way to work either "excrement" or "copulate" onto it (kind of an inside joke of sorts :))

Here's what I think you should make it look like:

VCSp on the front pocket
benheck.com banner from he homepage on the back near the top
A few other projects (SNESp, NES Micro...) scattered around the back

Be sure to put the new Portables of Doom logo on there too! 8)

And have fun at the party thing! It's all for naught if you don't have fun!

What luck, I hope you can go and have enough money to buy an xbox 360. I lied about my age to win the tickets. Dude don't pass up this oppurtunity it probably won't ever come around again. Good luck.

I'm guessing you still didn't win? I would've lied about my age, but I figured they would've required photo ID. I could've got some fake ID made up, but that would set me back even further.

If you get a shirt made, you need to have "Portablize This!" on it. And if you get on TV, tell them that you're going to take your new 360 and tear it open to make a portable.

I think Microsoft should give a free 360 to everybody who goes. It's a publicity stunt, and you're paying to get to it, so you should get something out of it. I guess that would cost them over a million dollars though, but they can afford it.

BTW, did you request 1 ticket or 2?
