A recap of the past 14 months (for abbibi's return)

Post by SpongeBuell »

Since abbibi is back, I thought this may be a good idea. Post any major things that have changed since September of 2004, since he's probably pretty lost. I suppose a quick introduction for those that have been here a while (but still haven't seen him until now) couldn't hurt, either. I'll put the major things here, and edit my post.

First of all, the board has adopted a mini mod policy, where there are several mods that have powers in only a few forums. This is a good way to give the normal mods a break, and recognize specialties. Gannon is still an admin, however (though I guess that's new for you, too ;) )

Next, Portables of Doom has moved *counts* 3 times. From doomportables.org, to cogia.net, to gptheatre.co.uk (will talk about that next) to where it is now. Of course, it's been recoded as well.

As for GPTheatre, that's been recoded (not sure if you were there to see that) but has no home at the moment (will probably put it on PoD, since we still have bandwidth :) ) and hasn't been updated. I'm thinking of giving it another recode, too :)

Well, that takes care of the obvious... anything else? :)

Ben has made a few Neo Geo projects, as well as an awesome NESp. He redesigned the site.

A lot of new members have joined, a number of people have come and gone (some for good,) Lucretius left because his life situation warranted it.

Problem is, abbibi has no idea who Luc is :P

Oh yeah, links would be nice if possible.

lots of new portables made by us, just to name a few, gamelvers GCP 1.5, a couple other GCPs, a good bit of SNES', to name one, turbotax's, a couple NES-Ps by G-force, paul, me and others. A bunch other ones.

We've also had a bit of a shake in forum 42, couple bits of spam here and there, threads locked, and people getting either PB or TB.
(theyre all on the list)

Ben made some sweet new portables, and not so portables including the acrade cabinet! He was on G4: AOTS.

DOOMportables has a bunch of new junk, including some new portables, and a load o new members.

I've been here a while, but I left, and then came back! That's pretty major in my opinion

The forum switched to mini mods, I was promoted to asist. admin, I made 2 mini atari pcb revisions, I completely reprogrammed my site and updated with some half way decent info only to have the server data rolled back a month and a half losing every new thing.. umm.. I actually stocked NOACs, and then finally sold out of the 20 I bought about 6 months later :P

Me too! :D

I started a site, originally on Geosh***ies, then on 100webspace, then on GPTheatre, finally on bicostp.portablesofdoom.org (the new one looks a hella lot better than the old one, http://bicostp.portablesofdoom.org/main )

I made several things in TicTac boxes including speakers, a radio (which my friends tell me looks like a detonator ), and an LED flashlight.

Ben redesigned the site and made some nice portables, including a Neo-Geo MVSp and the NES Micro. He also built a NeoGeo MVS arcade unit.

The Phoenix (mass produced VCSP) came out, and thebook went to press.

We upgraded to the latest version of phpbb a few months back.

Over the summer we were hacked twice.

The forum apparently got too big for its britches, so multiple MySQL database names had to be used on the forum database.

The IRC chatroom was basically abandoned by most.

doomportables.org and gptheatre.co.uk fell by the wayside

Several spammers got banned (some temporarily, others permanently)

We added a Rules Congress, the Parole List, and the Posting Habit Suggestions to the rules thread to try and limit the amount of spam and stuff here. I think it has helped a bit)

There have been 2 new forums added to the videogame hacking forums: the Sega forum and the Book forum.

Several kickarse portables came out of the woodwork

That's all I can think of for now. As far as stuff that has happened before March 7 2005, I wasn't there to witness it. :P
