HAVE PARTS - PLEASE HELP!!

Hello all, I've been looking at this site for a while now and all of the pictures of your home made portables inspired me to try it myself. I have parts but need help with some electronic stuff. I have a hip pad screen, genesis core system, game gear, game boy pocket, sega 6 button and 3 button controllers, 3rd party ps2 controller, some small speakers, headphone jacks and the like.

Well anyways I have some ideas like attaching the screen and a controller to the back of the genesis but how could i get the mobo smaller?? doesn't it need everything on it to run? I know it would be way easier to use the GOAC but I dont have any $$ right now so I'd like to use what I have. I think the hip pad screen would look great in the gameboy pocket like I've seen on here too but could i fit a genesis 2 into it instead of a GOAC? PLEASE HELP!! I've got all the parts and things I need but I'm stuck! information much appreciated.

On my site there is a thing for making a genesis 2 into an easy portable. It's the Genesis Ondago page. It would be good for a first portable, since GOAC's are pretty hard to work with I hear. Just glue the hip gear hinge onto the Genesis case instead of the PSone screen, wire it up, and it should look really good.

PS: hip gear and GOAC wouldn't fit in a GB Pocket. That and it only holds 2AAA's, not enough to power it.

I've seen your ondago page before and I'm hoping to build something similar but smaller if possible. With the gameboy case I would only be using the front half for display and control purposes adding a 3rd hole for the 3rd sega button but i wasn't expecting to use the battery slot part just the front of the gameboy, and i would take the hip screen out of its casing to fit into the gb.

unless your using a radica there is no whay you could use a GB pocket, they are way too small, it would be very thick as well

here's what I've got so far, it's my first so tell me what you think. For now it's only running off of an adapter setup so technically not portable, yet! can I use 9v batteries? any other battery setup options? a camcorder I'm thinking.

scrap the speakers and use the Hipgear ones, they'll use to much space and juice

Looks good so far.

Sure, you could use 9v batteries, but they don't have a very long life for portables. If space is an issue, you can get away with some AAAs or AAs. But the best solution is a battery for a camcorder, RC car, or laptop.

those speakers only look big, they're the same size as the hip gear speakers so not much diff in power consumption for that reason and I like the way they look.Oh and about the picture quality, it was just a quick pic and I was excited of getting my first portable to actually work, you've all been there! so I'll take more pics soon with it running, more feedback please!

It works! as you can see and I call it the sega G-NE-IS "genius"

. A camcorder bat works good and fits nicely above the screen (battery isnt shown due to adapter being in use) On the upper right side is the controller cord (hidden behind some black foam) so you can play by holding only the controller or use it like it is shown. I think it turned out great for my first one and it was way easier than I thought and quicker too! Hope you guys like it. Later I would like to add a/v hookups so i can still use it with a tv and also hook up the headphone jack. QUESTION! I hooked the speakers right up to the right/left audio parts of the circuit board but its too quiet so my question is how can I get a volume boost? or add a volume knob

hook the speakers up to were the hipgear screen speakers were and it will do what you want
very nice does it play carts ?

Thanks, I wish I could hook up the speakers to the screen but the sound stopped working a while ago (which was my reason for taking it apart) no sound comes through the audio wires for some reason. Yes it plays carts it's a regular genesis 2. The second picture shows the back with the game cyborg justice in it.

ok then try buying an audio amp from radio shack i think they sell them there im not sure if it explains how to wire it or not
o yeah and did you bybass the 7808 on the screen that may be your problem

yeah, just get an amp from radioshack or i heard you can make one with a transistor (i'd like the scematics for the simplest one possible if anyone has them). anyway, looks great
