The general idea of what I'm talking about. The stick would have a cap, of course, it's just removed in this sketch. The arrows on the screen are of course the camera buttons in Standard Mode on SM64DS, which would have to be avoided by the contraption.

Hehe, that's what got me thinking about this again. Hm. So what if you took an analog stick off of some other system--a N64 stick might actually work better for something like this--and work out a way to clamp it onto the DS under the D-pad. That's certainly possible, so the actual problem here is ...

But the D-pad is limited in SM64DS. You can't run with it alone; you have to use the run button, as opposed to the touch screen analog stick where moving your stylus or thumb farther away from the initial point of contact causes Mario to move more quickly. The only way you can really get the ...
