PANIC OVER!

It turned out I hadn't jumped the lid sensor switch after removing it. Doh!

I've just put a paperclip in there and it's spinnig away. (Although nothing else is happening)

OK, my meter does not have that beep function so I just measured for voltage and got what seemed like "normal" readings from all the connections.

Tried it with disc in and disc out.

I am absolutely stumped.

Thanks for your help so far! Any more ideas :oops:

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm getting 7.8 V and 5.0 V on the 7805. I'm presuming they're input and output voltages.

I'll have a bit of a mess with the motor. What sort of reading should I be getting do you know? Also are you German? Stupid question I know but I'm a German translator and I only ...

PSOne power (?) but no disk spin

So I've wired up the whole thing with the generous help of the book and the forums (thank you everyone).

I put in a battery and the green LED comes on, the screen backlight comes on, and the screen goes blacker than before. I am getting readings of around 7.2V at the battery, the screen power input ...
