"PS3 estimated to bankrupt 80% of the worlds population
Well I was hopeing to get a PS3 sometime after it comes out (definatly not as soon tho) and it seems that Sony has once again decided to shater that wish. Now i'm no work aholic here, I make around $200 MAX a month and figured you know, i'll save up $600 CAD for a PS3 and some games but NO. The estimated price of the PS3's components added now is $800 USD, thats will over a grand CAD. Now I know Sony will definatly knock $200 if not $300 off per system because noones gonna pay $900 USD.
Now you think they would take a hint from that fact that most people arn't rushing out to buy a 360s for $400 who the heck is gonna pay DOUBLE that for a PS3.
Now honestly what person between the ages of 15 and 30 can just reach into their pockets and pull out a grand for a new PS3 and 2 games? I know I can't.

This reminds me of the 3DO; it's a game machine that costs as much as a small car and tries to do everything.
Most of the problem as I see it is in their formats, not the price. (people will gladly pay out the *** for something like this, I mean just look at all the $1k+ TVs out there! And all the expensize SUVs with DVD players and sattelite radio they have to pay each month for! And since they put it on the credit card, it doesn't seem like money at all!) Sony should just scrap Blue-Ray and go with HD-DVD like the rest of the media. When DVD started catching the high-end end user's eye (1998 or so), all the companies agreed on one system, the DVD MPEG encoding we all know and love. Now, if most of the consumer next-gen video players out there will be HD-DVD by the time the PS3 comes out, it would be very foolish to try to get a new format into the market, especially since the only thing that will be able to play them is a game machine that costs almost a thousand dollars. By that time there will be HD-DVDs all over the place, while Blu-Ray discs will be fewer and further between. That would be like one company making Kia quality cars that cost as much as Ferraris that run on vegetable oil and kerosene. Neither of the feuls are as popular as gasoline, so why would you pay for a really expensive car that only does what a signifigantly cheaper car will that you have to drive hundreds of miles to refuel?
They're going to have to bring the price down a bit if they're going to be competitive.

Of course, if they bring the price down too much, they'll be losing too much money per system to justify it. It kind of puts them in a bind because if they have the price too high, no one will buy it. If they lower it to appeal to consumers, people'll buy it but they could lose money. I do like your analogy about the whole Blu-Ray thing, though Bicostp. It seems that HD-DVD will most likely win out in the end.
About people not having enough money to pay for it, I completely agree. Not very many people can go spend near to 1000 dollars for a videogame system. There's also the fact that once you get the system, the games'll be craptacular to pay for as I'm sure the cost of games will go up to at least $60 this next generation.

HD-DVD should be out before summer but Blu-ray (players) won't be out for atleast a year. This will be a very bad mistake for Sony. They have already lost a lot from having Microsoft relese the Xbox 360 (almost) a year before the PS3.... IF they don't delay it till 2007 and if they do delay the PS3 and Blu-ray till 2007 they will have let HD-DVD go for almost a year.
I mean look at it this way, once most people have goten a HD-DVD player they arn't gonna want to go out and spend another $300 on a Blu-ray player just so they can watch diffrent movies.
I personaly think the consumers will get pissed off because most companys will be useing HD-DVD because it was out sooner and then Sony will relese their movies in Blu-ray only forceing you to buy both.

Sega isn't big enough to make a comeback to the hardware. Though if they were to make a portable... like Dreamcast portable. really that's just a dream, it will likey never happen.Super Mulletman wrote:I'm really not liking my options on the new line up.
Microsoft is evil, Sony is evil, and Nintendo is a [pansy].
Sega better make a comeback.
Sony is getting a little better, though it's obvious they are after the Media Center for this generation of game consoles.

Ya, it's well known that Sony only makes money on the games. As said above a DVD is around $1, and prolly only $0.50 if they buy a couple thousand at a time. So if they sell games for $80 (which they have been known to do) they make a profit of well over 2000% (thats ignoring the fee they pay the company for the game).

But, Sony owns the company to make the technology, saving themselves. However, remember Star Wars, back in the 70's, those SFX would cost more than 5,000,000 dollars, George Lucas owned the company making the SFK, giving him self financial backup in a way.
