gp32 - the game park 32.

Post by mindstein »

So has anyone checked out the game park 32 (gp32)?

http://www.lik-sang.com/info.php?catego ... ts_id=4362&

Dont buy it from link-sang though? They advertise 166 MHz but it is not guaranteed.

Other places test them ang guarantee overclocking to a certian number.

I am thinking about buying one and want to know if anyone has played with one.

It is small open source handheld that can be overclocked to about 133,166,or 180 MHz

It uses smart media upto 128mg and 2AA batteries. From what I see it has a good development base of people porting emulators and games like DOOM over to it.

They already have emulators for:
SNES, NES, GB, GBC and GBA, Sega Mega Drive, Master System, Spectrum, C64, Atari, PC Engine, MAME, MSX, Neo Geo Pocket, Game Gear

Some are said to be perfect like tha NES or AtariST or C64,
and some need frame skip to get sound like SNES and some dont work yet like MAME. But for the price I think it is a good deal. what do you guys think?

I realy think I am going to get one. It can be modded to run up to 180 MHz and has a video player ported so you can watch DiviX movies.
Cartoons would be best as the playback frame rate depends on the overclocking.

Do a google search for gp32 review and see what people say. I am still trying to make up my mind.

YES!

GameParks are the best. It plays movies, music, and most classic consoles perfectly. My one wish is that it had a good 2600 emulator, but that's not impossible to happen sometime. Also, GP32z.com is a great place to get it.

If you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer.

actualy GP32z was the place I was thinking about geting it from.
Is he OK to order from?

I wanted to get the glass, and voltage mods from him.

I hear that the 2600 emulators are not very good but between the 2 that there are now, most games will play. Is that right?

Also does Divix realy look OK. Or do you have to compress it way to much.
I want to watch cartoons and 1hr long TV shows. Also is it realy posible to get a movie on 2 X 128mg cards and still have it look Good?

I fly a lot and a handheld that will play all of my games and video too sounds to good to be true for under 200.

yes, GP32z is reliable. I did the glass screen and couldn't be happier.

As for the joystick, it's like an N64 joysick, but digital.

I had a GP32 for a while. I bought it just before they decided to release a backlit version. That kind of bugged me. So I put a bunch of emulators on it, ported one myself (NesterGP), then just got kind of tired of it. One thing that bugged me about the builtin MP3 support was that it didn't really have good volume or an equalizer. I would try to listen to music on the way to work when I was taking the train, the noisy El' to be more exact. Sometimes it was a struggle to hear the music clearly on my headphones. I mostly listened to classical, which can be very quiet sometimes.

I was definitely impressed with MoviePark, a DivX player. Yes, you have to recompress your movies. Oh well. Anime looked VERY good and live action was so so.

Personally, I would suggest either saving for the PSP (not that much more expensive) or getting a Zodiac (A LOT more expensive).

theres so much more since you have said that, there are MP3 players that are better than the origional one, and one has an EQ
also, movies, and much much more, plus its also got some faster emu's now, like full speed Genesis and NES and darn near SNES ( it is without sound, not with sound )
really, check out gp32x.com for info
also, gp32z is stoping their selling side for gp32 and moving to next gen handhelds... bummer
but GBAX is your best bet

Another happy GP32 owner reporting here :D

These things are great, and are so customisable because of the fact that they are open source (write your own software and run it really easily).
