I'm back...with ideas!

Post by Beware of Guard Metroid »

Everyone is always talking about a portable XBox, and I've heard some pretty flawed ideas. I, personally, am not a fan of the XBox, but I have what I think is a good idea for one. Houdini suggested a backpack with a head visor, but then you can't see where you're going and you can't play while you walk. I don't know if anyone has thought about this, but what if the XBox (made smaller and lighter with some mods) is in a backpack and you connect a screen with an integrated controller with a wire for a Gameboyesque kind of feel? I know there are lots of flaw in power and cooling and weight, but I'm not making this personally. I just thought I would throw the idea out there. I haven't heard anything about it and I think it would be very possible. Post your thoughts.

This could also be used for any console. The only thing would be a power supply and integrating the split controller onto/under the screen. If this could be done, any system could be portablized, no more fried N64 boards!!!! The system could be modded to rearrange it so it fit better or made your life easier, but it wouldn't be necessary. You could even use one of those laptop backpacks to carry it in. Great way for n00bs to gain some electronics experience without having to take apart their favorite game console and ultimately breaking it beyond repair.

it'd be better to just have a handheld without having to lug around a backpack. wouldn't a mini ITX PSU and some li-poly batts be enough to power an XBOX?

I saw a screenpad for the xbox on ebay a couple weeks ago and thought about the x-bag idea, but decide to try something else.

I'm just trying to find an alternative to carrying around such a big, heavy monster handheld. I wouldn't mind a backpack if the actual handheld unit was small and Gameboy-esque. The handheld full XBox would be thick, HEAVY, and all around goofy looking. The backpack with the visor obscures vision and is still pretty goofy looking. This wouldn't be goofy and it wouldn't break your arms (it would break your legs :P). This could also be done for any console, maybe even just make one and make it compatible for all 3 This-Gen systems (doubt this is possible, but the button layouts are all the same and they all have about the same buttons, just add extra shoulder buttons and black, white, and select buttons to a GCN controller). You could look cool and enjoy your favorite console games on the go. N00bs would have a much easier time with this too.

Would this be possible? Anyone? I don't have any electronics knowledge, but if it could be done I know some people. This solves any size issues and I think it would be fairly easy (but maybe not :? )

yes, it could be done with a mini-itx power supply, some li-poly batteries, a laptop hard drive, and taking apart the disc drive to make it into one where you simply clip the disc onto the spindle, instead of having a sliding tray, and then you'd have to get a smaller heatsink, since the one on there is huge....it can be done, but it requires a HUGE amount of work....oh, and the mobo is pretty big, too, so the smallest the portable can be is the mobo size :(.
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!
