The Killer App for the PS3
Grand Theft Auto Online: A Massive Multiplayer Game
This would be the killer game app of all time. With the power of the PS3 and the online gaming scene going red-hot Sony and Rockstar would be nuts not to do this.
You have a big online world, a la World of Warcraft, but it's a huge city, or a state like San Andreas. Players create their mobster characters and are sent on missions by NPC's in the game. PLUS players can send other players on missions, like "This guy stole my house, go MAKE HIM PAY!" Or "I want that guy's car!"
OR you could even be a good guy! A cop cleaning up the streets! Maybe you get people to play as that by giving them free guns and stuff. (support) The mobsters are on their own.
As your character progressing you can hire NPC's as "gangs" to guard your interests. Also since you never "die" in GTA you can just goto the hospital or jail when beat (instead of wandering around looking for ghosts or whatever that nonsense is) That allows for the entering and exiting logic of the game to make sense.
This would be an FPS, a car game, role-playing game, Sims game and online game all in one. Since it takes place in a realistic "virtual world", like the Sims, it creates a great escape for the average game from their life.
This would be HUGE. Think of it - it's fun to run around in GTA even after you beat the normal game, imagine how much fun it'd be with thousands of other people.
Perhaps different servers could be different cities, so *technically* everyone's in the same world. Even so, playing the built-in missions with the additions of everyone else playing (and competing for missions) would create a dynamic gameplay as such the replay would be astounding.
If Sony/Rockstar did this, the PS3 would completely smash any and all competetion. You take the top-selling game of the 21st century and put it online. The addiction level would be amazing, and addiction=MONEY!
Thoughts? Man, imagine if PS3 launched with this...

Hmm... This is an interesting Idea. I'll probably be 18 by the time something like this comes out so my Mom won't be there to worry about it. I wish I could play the GTA games right now...

if PS3 got GTA online, it would succeed. it'll crush the competition, no doubt. that is, if Rockstar manages to make it a good online GTA game, with kick ass graphics and a living, breathing world (well, a few cities
) then I may even try and save enough money for a PS3....well....actually, I'll probably just get the Rev
. main reasons right now being cost and backwards compatibility
.
Edit: A Zelda MMORPG? nah, Zelda was always about being the hero and saving the world, so it'd be hard to incorporate that into a MMORPG.

Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

i thought of this and told my friends something very similar. but the game would also have a normal story mode (just like all gta games) and then you can go online. the other cool thing wouuld be 3 or 4 city's linked together so you can just go and live out in the desert or you can fly in planes, get trains ect. it would be great!

Four Swords? That is semi-MMORPG, being that 4 players could play at once, it could work like that... GBA Wi-Fi... maybe not.Gamelver wrote:Edit: A Zelda MMORPG? nah, Zelda was always about being the hero and saving the world, so it'd be hard to incorporate that into a MMORPG.

Somebody please buy my Dreamcast >_> £20+shipping
An addon online version of Gta: vice city was made but it isnt that successful because the servers do not have enough people on them. However, if ps3 released gta:online there is no doubt that would be the biggest game of the next gen consoles
