Hmm, broken as in it wont turn on, this all happened durning that virus that made it not be able to turn on. Any ideas about this virus/ fixes your help would be greatly appreciated.
Side note, if I get this computer back working I will be changing the color of the monitor (OLLLLLLLD compaq monitor) and the tower (which looks like this http://images.google.ca/images?q=tbn:OZ ... ORCSE1.JPG ) and making it black streamlined with lime green.

Sam if it ont turn on, Turn the computer around, and there should be a Switch (Looks kinda like a light switch), What ever way its facing, Flick the switch,
Then turn on computer, if that wont work, Try flicking it the other way
if that wont work

I doubt you did a backup of your system, or use the windows restorer fuction. But you might be able to get the system back by using the recovery console.
To use it you have to put in the installation CD (no you need an XP install CD not the recovery disc most dealers give you). When all the drives are loaded you'll have three choices; install, recover(R), or quit. Once you get to the recovery console, you'll be able to reset or modify any system files.
Now before you run of and do that, understand that you need to understand the use of the DOS prompt, or as its now known the XP prompt. You can go to Microsoft.com and find a list of commands and what they do.

By 'wont turn on', do you mean no little light in the front, no BIOS, or no boot-up?

So your OS wont boot, then you have a choice, do what I did to get the system files back that are obviously gone, or you can just reinstall.
I would suggest a live linux CD, but if your system is NTFS then you can use it the write ablility is still spotty. But if it is on the off chance a FAT32 then you can directly access the files, and reright them if you need to.

Know of any cause I have yet to hear of full support for NTFS and I dont know if the anit-virus programs for linux are up-to-date.gannon wrote:Yeah, a good live linux cd with fs support and an antivirus does wonders
Edit - Found this on digg. http://www.linuxjournal.com/article/8661 they talk about data recovery using a live linux CD. So this might help.
