hay BEN HECK AND any1 else interested...

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

hay BEN HECK AND any1 else interested...

Post by rvers »

got any ideas on on how you could turn nintendo ds's pixalated 2 screens into 1 slick and high res singular screen that could be used in connection with dvd playas, ps2,gc,xbox' and anything with a av output? i have some ideas, if you thinks its a pointless idea then maybe i should convert to sony, because im fed up with the ds line up of el'crappo games....innovation my Fu<kiN* arse.... if ben heck could put nintendo to shame once more, i'd buy that for a dollar!
man, i would like to view, in wide screen, i should add, bored on the back of the bus, playing a portable gamecubE!!!!!
im looking to build a team interested in snes games(making them), roms, hacks etc...

That has to be the damned most ignrant post I have seen so far. Apparently you dont know your poop egress from your elbow when it comes to electronics.

First off, I have a vauge idea (at best) on WTF you are tying to say. Basically you want to use the DS as a screen in some way, but not just to play DS. You want to plug in your "DVD Playa"...

This is what would need to be done if you want to use a DS and its screens. Either A) Rip the whole thing apart, and somehow build a controller that can convert an analog composite signal into the Digital LCD "language" the screens use. Thats not going to happen. The cost of a DS plus the amount of skill needed not only to make the controller card, and not destroying the LCD connections is far FAR more complex than what most people here can do, even myslef (and ive been in electronics for over 15 years). or B) build a specal cart that plugs into the NDS slot that has an analog to digital signal comveter and a chunk of ROM with your own custom code that can take the digital signal and process it into images, or tile maps (or whatever the DS needs to display backgrounds). Something like that exists for the GBA and its somewhat craptastic. Its nice to use the GBA as a screen, but its not as good as an el-cheap'o $30 hip gear/intec screen.

If you are so unhappy with the crap-tastic games for the DS, why dont you quit whining about it and get some GBA games. Those work on the DS as well. Or better yet, quit being a poser by getting a new console cause everyone else thinks its the crap. Next time do some reseach before you buy a product, or post an idea that has been discussed OVER and Over and OVER again.

When has The Ben ever put Nintendo to shame? The only thing he has done to insult nintendo was chop up their consoles for his own sadistic reasons. I dont see how thats insulting since he is making portable consoles popular, and dumbasses like yourself go through a few of them before they get it right. Thats just more cash in Big-N's pocket in the long run.

Just because the games suck doesnt mean a console isnt innovative... look at the virtual boy. The thing kicked ass hardware wise. It was easy to code, had fast direct RAM/ROM acces, huge limit on ROM size, fast CPU, and a lot of potential. The games for it SUCKED, but it was still innovative. The ONLY console of its type.

EDIT: I noticed your sig'. Looking for a team to code the SNES... Well, unless you know how to code in 65C816 Asembally language, you wont be going anywhere fast. As for hacking roms, thats another story. Im into rom hacking, but not to make new games, just to explore the contents of existing games, and possibly adding fun new stuff. I suggest starting with NES. It has a simpler CPU, less ROM/RAM space (makes it easy to debug and trace values) and there are a crapload or allready made utilites that let you do some fun fun stuff. BTW, the virtual boy was using a decent RISC based NEC CPU @ 20 Mhz, the SNES used a 3.57Mhz 65C816... In short, that means the VB was over 6 times faster, and was a 32 bit system. SNES was only 16 bit.

Why would anyone want to do this anyway? You spend over $130 on a DS to tear up for their crummy screens? Not to meantion the chroma decoder you would have to build (about $100). You can buy a better, sharper, and USEABLE screen from the supplier Ben uses for less. Lets not forget that it has small circuitry ready to accept a composite signal. Or you could fork over a whopping $25 for a hip gear.

1. Dont bipass the swear filter.
2. Ben's work isnt shameful.
3. Rver < One Dollar < Ben's Work
Any questions?
4. The DS's games arent crap, you're probably just hyped up on too much ignorance, and have read to many reviews written by people who were born in like 1996, and who hold their PSPs and XBoxes with light faces.
5. Go Away.
6. If you dont go away, remember this, everyone hates you.

This has already been discussed before, decided impossible (or not worth the effort), so I'm locking it.

I just have to slip one thing in here, if you're going to talk about ben get his name right. His last name isn't "Heck". If you'd ever bothered looking at the front page of his site, you'd know what it really was.
