What is the power draw from a SNES mini and un-LED'd LCD
I've looked from cover to cover in Ben's book, but there isn't a chart where he explictily states what the power draw is on the SNES and PSone LCD.
I don't want to do the LED mod because I've heard horror stories about cracking the LCD, the lighting being crap, breaking the video clamp, etc, etc...
I plan to run this thing off of 6 Ni-MH AAs @ 1.2V @ 2000mAh

I think the PSone screen draws roughly 1000mah without the LED mod. Not too sure about the SNES board, though. Try checking on the bottom of the SNES case or on the wall power adaptor. It sould have power requirements printed there.

I don't have my mini SNES yet, but I did some very rough math, and decided to not go with Radio Shack batteries.
PSone LCD: 1000mAh
mini SNES: ~300-400mAh (my guess since my 1st gen, christmas '92, model says 850mAh)
I found 12 Ni-HM AA batteries @ 2300mAh online for 25 bucks, including shipping.
So, if I have two sets of batteries to use, I can get about 3.5 hours out of it.

I was a bit shakey about doing the LED mod to my screen, but with a lot of patience(dont rush it) and going over the book several times, making sure you know whats what, its pretty easy. Also the drop in power comsuption is soo worth it. I have a 7.2v 3300mAh RC battery and I get around 5h 30min on my SNESp. The tube lighting is better, but the LED mod isn't horrible by any means.
SNESp - 100%
Protable X - 15% - I need money

I looked for this too, and it says in the book that yes, it does draw about 350mA. Seriously though, do the LED mod. If you think it looks like crap, put in 3 more LEDs or just live with it. I wouldn't sweat it though, you should be fine. Also, note that there is an error on the supplies page, it says you need 4 battery holders from RadioShack but you only actually need 1.
Well, I'm kinda 50-50 on it.
Without the LED mod: ~1.75 hours * 2 = ~3.5 hours of play.
With the LED mod: ~2.875 hours * 2 = 5.75 hours of play.
I really doubt I'll be playing for more than an hour at a time. I'm also trying to build this before school starts (Thursday), so the LED mod might not be worth it. If I get it done before school, I'm just going to be playing it during lunch (45 min), and I'll probably be packing more than enough batteries.
If I were to do it, it would be basically bragging rights, and that's about it. I plan on making more than 1 SNESp, so if I don't do it this time around, I'll do it later.
