Installing a OS on XBOX
ok so right now I have Xebian Linux Installed on my xbox, it was a lot easier to install then Gentoox and a lot quicker too.
Now I am going to be using PearPC to Install MacOS X On my xbox.
Theres a lot of work involved to do this.
is anyone else running any operating systems on there xbox?...
like....
Windows 3.1/NT
Windows 95/98/2000
MacOS X
WindowsCE
Linux (What Flavor?)
Anyone?

Yeah I'd say stay away from Mac OS X, it bare min. ram in 128mb. Not forgetting that many of the Xbox version of linux distros use Gnome and KDE both resource hogs. Look into XDSL, its a port of DSL to the Xbox and I've hear its performance is far better then Gentoo, Xebian, Fedora or Knoppix.

OSX doesn't run well on anything slower than 1 ghz. (Isn't the Xbox 700 mhz?) However I have seen it installed on a Power Mac 7600/132 (132 MHZ clock speed, 60 MHZ bus
)
I've never seen Windows installed on an Xbox. Do you mean running it under DOSbox, or do you mean running it alone?
Did your installation require a modchip, or did you use the software install?
Man this almost makes me want an Xbox.
almost.

no modchip needed
And yeah I have XDSL Already, its real basic, Xebian is not bad, a lot better then even the light install of gentoox, but gentoox... is KDE and real easy to use, perfect noob dash, and theres so much great software that comes with the install, just soo slow, its like surfing on the dreamcast
Well I am going to install mac osx now why? so I can say I did it

Your joking about the speed right? I have a G3 thats clocked at 350mH it runs fine at that, my problem is ram.bicostp wrote:OSX doesn't run well on anything slower than 1 ghz. (Isn't the Xbox 700 mhz?) However I have seen it installed on a Power Mac 7600/132 (132 MHZ clock speed, 60 MHZ bus)
No there is no way to run windows on the Xbox as is. To run it you'd need to modify the kernel and Microsoft doesnt release any of their source code.I've never seen Windows installed on an Xbox. Do you mean running it under DOSbox, or do you mean running it alone?

Well, after you intall Linux and Mac OSX you could install Virtual PC and run Windows like that, but I wouldn't want to even think about how slow that would be. *shudder*Sparkfist wrote:Your joking about the speed right? It would probably take about 30 minutes to boot.Black Six wrote:Well, after you intall Linux and Mac OSX you could install Virtual PC and run Windows like that, but I wouldn't want to even think about how slow that would be. *shudder*Sparkfist wrote:Your joking about the speed right? Do you even own a Mac? I dont think so so unless you've come in contact with one or better yet have you even run something like BSD or linux? They take about 2 minutes (as you have to boot the GUI seperatly) not a year. Also DSL will not work on a Mac its stricly x86.nos_slived wrote:Use 3.1!
Sparkfist, I'm guessing you meant 350MHz. 350mHz would take about a month to start DSL, let alone OSX.
Sorry, I'm just picky about units of measurement.
Now as for time of load. Yes we all know the Xbox isnt going to run Mac OS X well as its emulating hardware and lacks sufficant ram. I suggested XDSL as its fluxbox GUI uses less ram, its a minimulist distro and DSL which its based off is able to run on 64mb ram no problem.
If you really want to make it look like your running Mac OS X on your Xboxl; buy a macmini and put it in there. You'll have the hardware no problem and it will have better ventilation.
