Luc's post for the Lazies:

Ooh! OWNED!Lucretius wrote:I'm curious. If you really do believe in "Flat Earth" theory, how would you reply to these ideas? I'm not trying to be rude, angry, or at all unbelieveing toward you're ideas. I just need more facts before I'm willing to believe ANYTHING. I believe in "Sphereical Earth" theory because of facts. All I've seen on your side is blind faith, paranoia toward the government, and a total lack of science. So please fill me in on the part that I'm missing.Aristotle provided physical evidence for the spherical Earth:
* Ships actually recede over the horizon, disappearing hull-first. In a flat-earth model, they should simply get smaller and smaller until no longer visible, assuming that light travels in a straight line.
* Travelers going south see southern constellations rise higher above the horizon. This is only possible if their "straight up" direction is at an angle to northerners' "straight up". Thus the Earth's surface cannot be flat.
* The border of the shadow of Earth on the Moon during the partial phase of a lunar eclipse is always circular, no matter how high the Moon is over the horizon. Only a sphere casts a circular shadow in every direction, a circular disk casts an elliptical shadow in most directions.

Also, I'm not sure if it's anyone here, but I just thought I'd say that for thier forum, don't spam 'em. Sure they may be a couple nutcases, but that gives you no right to do it. The reason I say this is that it seems like they've had some problems in the past, and most guests are not identified.

when you think about it, very few of us have ever attempted any of the simple home experiments that are supposed to prove the world round. I haven't. Even fewer of us have been high enough in the air to see it for ourselves.
all of a sudden it isn't much of a larger leap of faith to believe the earth is flat rather than round. Come on, even in combat, pacman and spacewar, when you go off one edge of the screen you come out on the other--it might be like that.
TV, books and our teachers all say the world is round. but you know they just teach us the most commonly accepted theory of anything. How many things that you learned in school aren't 'true' anymore?
Foodgroups much? how many magical new foodgroups are there? remember when potatoes or even milk were good for you?
and haven't they disproved the moon landing yet?
