Using an external adaptor for power? test reasons Hip Gear.

For test reasons could I use an external power supply for a hip gear screen just so I can test it at lower voltages before putting it into my xbox?

I want to test and get the screen connections working 100% before mounting and wiring up the voltage from the motherboard.

I have an adjustable voltage power supply, think I used to use it for my game boy back in the day...

If I can what is a good voltage to start at for a Hip Gear? 6v, 7v? and whats the max? 12v?

Any help would be great.
