Lost files on a Mac

Post by Lucretius »

Hey guys...my sister was uploading pictures to her Powerbook G4 (running Mac OS X 10.3.9). She deleted the files of of her camera but then accidentally deleted them off of her computer too. She also emptied her recycle bin. The question I have is:

Can she retreive them, and how?

Thanks guys!

Can you fly to the moon and back with a bottle of coca cola?

basically, he's saying that yes, you can retrieve those files :P......(if you didn't catch the sarcasm, then he's saying "no" :P)
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

Use a program such as Norton Disk Utilities or FWB Toolkit. They usually have an undelete utility.

I like macs. Almost no viruses, almost no crudware. :) And Mac OS X's classic mode can run everything from StuntCopter (fun game from '88) to the latest version of Office for Mac OS 9.

all files are lost on macs...
I couldn't resist...

but if you don't have that software and aren't willing to buy/steal it, most computer shops offer data recovery as a service...an expensive service. I also expect those places charge a little extra for macs. having her pay for it instead of leaning on you is a vital character-building process. You don't want to have to fix that machine the whole rest of your life, do you?

Or, you could just say: "The pictures are gone forever because you did something wrong. Now we have to find you a computer that's easier to use than a mac... this pocket calculator is a fine option, but watch that 'C' button..."

Really there are only a handful of pictures I could think that would be worth this amount of trouble...

I'm pretty sure you can get them back in terminal, but I'm not skilled enough in Unix to know how. Ask on macrumors.com

don't forget that you can only get them back if they haven't been overwritten by new data--so she better not be using that computer in the meanwhile.
