The TR-64: My Second Portable

Post by Oracletriplex »

Features
-----------------
*Cartridge slot at the top of the device

*Full external rumble pack\memory card capability

*All N64 buttons functional including D-pad

*Aluminum heatsink w\fan over RCP with on\off switch

*RAM expander soldered to board

*On\Off switch

*12v power supply powers both N64 and video via built in external jack

My gripes and things I want to fix
--------------------------------
-Needs repainting

-A\B\C buttons are crap radio shack push button switches disguised as N64 buttons(they suck)

-Need to find some way(a duct) to vent hot air from my fan

-Cart slot is not particularly the right size and it wiggles around

-crap LCD screen has bad picture and mono audio output

-Need to find a 12v battery and charger to take this thing off wall power

-Need to hook up a headphone jack and an external N64 controller jack.

-Other than that, it works pretty good.

Before I closed it up I hot glued EVERYTHING. And put automotive bearing grease on the analog stick friction points. Tell me what you think. :D

Oh and this is my second portable because the first was basically the guts of this one plus an Ipod dock screen mounted into the hollowed out case of an IBM powerbook. It was good for a test run, but I had to cannibalize it when both of my Ipod dock screens fried.

*Added some bondo to the cartridge slot so it doesn't wiggle anymore
**Added a decent fan and an air vent
***Replaced face buttons with tactical switches that work much better
