n64 memory card

Post by Archon276 »

I can't remember if the memory card was required or not or if it was only certain games needed it.

Quite a few games used it , mainly third party games.

Depends. Most of the games that used it were sports games. Do you play them a lot ?

Most of the games allow you to save your game straight onto the game cartridge itself however there are some good games out there like ray man 2 the grate escape, shadow man, and guantlet legends that require a memory card to save your game progress. If you have enough solder skill I would recommend removing the ext port on the controller board and hard wiring a memory cart straight to the controller board so you have a built in memory stick. Another way around this is installing a seperate controller port so you can plug in an external controller and use a memory card that way.

or you could install a port for it like SS did for one of his. Thats what I'm doing. Then you can use rumble and the transfer pak too
This place is fun.

building an internal memory card was something I contemplated doing, but if you have external controller ports and have a switch for first player you can just use that when you are playing the few games that actually require the memory card. it saves a ton of work and space. thats what i decided to do anyway.
good luck!
