WeaveR's EmuLord 64 WIP thread

Post by weaver »

Started working on a project this weekend called the EmuLord 64. It's basically a Acer Aspire One Netbook modified with an xbox 360 controller built into it. It emulates N64 games, PSX games, SNES games, NES games and plays some pc games (GTA San Andreas, Tony Hawks Underground, Unreal Tournament 99 and 2004). Will upload some pics in a bit.

you should add a touch screen to your netbook while you're at it.
and, you can run a ps1 emu on your netbook at full speed? I can't really play ps1 games too well on my 1.6ghz eee pc 900ha.

Well I tried to relocate one of the analog sticks and failed. the controller doesn't work anymore:(
I think I can fix it but I need something to suck away the excess solder. I tried heating up the pins holding in the analog stick but accidentally connected 3 pins. I also broke one of the shoulder buttons trying to get of the board but, Im probably not going to use them anyway.

My brother has the same netbook. It plays N64 pretty good, so I assume something is wrong with your setup.

If you need some help, post some pics. Unless you really screwed something up, it probably isn't dead.

I know its not dead. I think It's because the pins on the right analog are connected. I was trying to heat up the pins to relocate it. So now there all soldered together. here's a pic.

How are you desoldering, braid or a desoldering iron?
Make sure you get all the connections, the 6 for the analog, the 4 casing ones, and the 4 for the tact switch. You usually can't get 100% of the solder, so the pin may be barely connected to the board still. I use a pair of pliers to grab the pin and move it a bit to break the last bit loose. Also, sometimes the solder will flow down the pin to the other side of the board if you heat it too long without removing the solder. Sometimes you can get it with a desoldering iron, I have had the hold boards upside down while desoldering a few times to remove it.
