Idea for gamecube Portable.... as slim as a PSP

Post by chocobo21 »

Ok... i had a crazy idea. From what i have read the gamecubes diskdrive is what makes making a more practicaly sized portable console hard if not impossable...(no offence to the previosly made gcps but my idea could result in somthing as small as a psp...if i can get round to making it ... ) anny way here is my idea:

insted of modding a gamecube to that it is smaller and more compact how about modding somthing like a palm pc* and attaching some kind of controll system....now i know what you are thinking."what do palm pcs have to with portable gamecubes!?" whell how about this modify the palms softwere so that it runs a gamecube emulator such as Dolphin. The games could be in the form of ISOs on a micro sd card which you simply insert into a card slot in the portable device.

let me know what you think

It takes a top of the line PC with a top of the line Video Card to run Gamecube games at a decent framerate with the Dolphin Emulator.

And you think a Palm can do this.

He's right. Most palm-style devices choke on SNES emulation.

What's more, Dolphin hasn't been ported to work on ARM-based devices (for the same reason). Thus, likely the closest your idea would come to fruition would be through modifying a netbook.

No offense, but that defeats the whole purpose of a portable. People ask all the time "Why don't you just use a psp with an emulator?"

It's just not the same.

We're just giving you the facts, no need to get angry.

I just saw this. Certainly not gamecube portable worthy but it I would think there could be some interesting things to do with it.

As said before, your idea won't work. Palm software would not be able to handle a Gamecube emulator.

But keep thinking man, and ignore the people that forget what its like to be new to modding.

Also, if it helps as a comparison - go Youtube Daedelus 64 for PSP. That thing is loads more powerful than a palm and it's still slow as crap (it's definitely improving though) and it's compatibility list is nearly nonexistent. Super Mario 64 works the best on it, btw

Being stronger doesn't meen you can emulate the system. The DS is stronger than a N64, but you can't just emulate that.
Thing is that you need to fake the components of the N64, and that takes more power than just the game.

I read somewhere that you need something about 6x or 10x more powerful to emulate something...can't remember which but I imagine it was 6x (or maybe 4x). Regardless, you need something a lot more powerful.

really, you could do it with a system that was barely more powerful, assuming your code was VERY VERY VERY well optimized, and perfect in every way. but, yes, for most emulators, since they are mostly based off what can be gleaned from reverse engineering the consoles, and as such, aren't particularly accurate or streamlined, must be on a much more powerful system. for example, i get roughly 80% speed on nullDC (dreamcast emu) on my pc, which, by my math is..*math..this will take a minute...* like 20 some odd times more powerful than a dreamcast. however, that may not be accurate, since my graphics card is all effed up, plus theres a ton of overhead. (vista  )

I agree,

1. GameCube portables have the original joy stick and buttons. (It least most of them do.)
2. You already have you're library of games.
3. An obnoxious, chunky, whirring GamCube just can't be beat by a slick slim PSP.
4. If you're successful in making your GCP then you would have pride in knowing that you made something thats cool that you can take on road trips.
5. Getting a blind spot from screwing with the GC laser is way too much fun

Must I go on?
It's not my fault reality is broken......It's yours!

Plus show me a PSP that can run N64 games at full speed with perfect sound.

And show me a PSP that can run Gamecube games at all.

I so hate the idiots on Engaget and YouTube.
