Just got a ds with a broken top screen, modding idea.

hey, my friend gave me a ds with a broken top screen for $10, and I wanted to think of an Idea for what to do with it.Its a ds lite.

I had 2 ideas:

1.take the guts out of my broken thick calculator, and swap the guts and use little button taps for the buttons. It has a dpad already...

2.Remove the top part, take the guts of my 2 broken psps, and use the speakers, buttons, and all on the other half of the ds to make I some kinda ds/psp hybrid.

which should I do?

also, Is it possible to play quake & quake 2 with the botttom screen? I can get a flash thing for the gba port.Is it in the config or somethin?

I vote for making it a stand-alone GBA console. Find a way to rewire the X and Y buttons to be turbo A and B and enjoy.

Someone here had an idea like that before, but dont remember it ever getting beyond the design phase.

to be honest im not surprised it didnt get further....
the speakers are at the top and GBA games play on the top screen not the bottom....so if you re-wire it will be a fair bit of work to trade screens.
but would be so awesome

actually, from the ds main menu thing, you can switch it down to the bottom screen.

pretty sure the DS does a hardware check and won't boot without the top screen. Atleast mine didn't

If you short the top screen LED backlight power terminals with a resistor, it will pass the hardware check.
