Upgrading to SP1 with Boot Camp

Post by limpport »

Yes, I meant SP1. I've just installed an old copy of XP Professional with Boot Camp, and it works. I didn't realize that this copy was from before any of the service packs. When I tried to get the drivers from the Mac disc, it said I needed at least SP2 or newer for the driver install to work.

So I figured "what the hell? Let's get SP3 on here!". So I downloaded the SP3 update from MS's website. When I tried to update, it said I needed at least SP1 to update to SP3 (this is when I realized how old the disk really was).

I then downloaded the update for SP2, in hopes it would work. I tried to update, but it said that there was not enough disk space, and I needed at least 250 mb-ish of space to update. I have 7.5gb of free space on the partion

So I have 2 main questions:
1. What's going on with SP2? Why does it think I don't have enough space?
2. How can I get an SP1 update? Support for SP1 was done with almost 5 years ago. Any link for a download re-directs to the SP3 page (so yes, I did Google it).

Use nLite to slipstream your XP install disc with SP2. Then try reinstalling XP using your new disc.

nLite wikipedia entry

I couldn't find the link to nLite, but it shouldn't be too difficult to find the download on the interwebz.

It's freeware btw.

Or just let windows update do its thing. Get an ethernet driver on that thing, and let windows update run its course. It'll install a copulate of updates, but eventually you'll be back on track.

But reinstalling is way easier.
Hey, sup?

Got it working just fine! Dug up a copy of XP Home with SP2, so I'm happy. Thanks!
