I have one that says the same thing on the bottom of it. Also where there should be a sticker says specifications and such there isn't one. I assumed this was just a floor model at a store, am I wrong?

You are correct, they are POP(point of purchase) display consoles. They have a few exclusive features, like silver switches instead of dull chrome coated ones, the embossing of the not for resale phrase, and are very rare. These are the only 2600a models made in the Sunnyvale facility. I've done a lot of research on these and was informed by the Atari museum that there are only 2 Atari items more rare than these consoles; the actual POP display and 2 unreleased games .
And for the missing sticker.???????????????????? Mine has it. Yours is just not mint. Stickers fall off after 20+yrs.

So I was going to do the composite mod on my atari 2600a. Should I not do this or since it's not mint it wouldn't hurt?
Even in heavily used one of these promo atari 2600a consoles in good condition can fetch $100 at auction, mint $200+ So I wouldn't, you can get a populated 2600a motherboard from Best Electronics for $35. Get one and keep your promo one un-modded.

Thanks for the info. I will probably just get a different atari and mod it.

I love it when people don't know what stuff is worth!
I got a Tandy 102 at a thrift store for $5, when one in similar condition is $35 on eBay!
Me too! I know when I got this I didn't know what it was worth but if you go to game stores they sell them for like $50.00. I will just have to get another one to mod. I still can't believe I got it for $9.00. Thanks for all the help everyone.
Those Ataris are not worth anymore from there standard counterparts. The is zero demand for "Not For Resale For Promotional Use Only" Ataris so you would be lucky to sell it for more then the run of the mill Atari. I have had 4 of those guys grace my Workbench as I installed video mods .
