audio question

Includes but not limited to: SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, PlayStation 1, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, Game Gear and I guess the Virtual Boy.

audio question

i soldered a speaker directly to the audio out and all i get is tinny sound out of it. do i need an amp to boost up the volume or is there an alternative way of hooking up a speaker to the psone? thanks!

Yeah you need an amp. You can cut off the one on the Hip Gear screen adjust board and use that.

It might be possible to just have a capacitor as an amp, but I don't know enough about that sort of thing to know if it would work.

You'd need to build an amplifier circuit. Line-level audio signals are not adequate to drive anything bigger than a headphone element.

You can just cut off the amp from the Hip Gear adjust board, it has a headphone jack already on it, plus a pot for adjusting sound.

Or take the amp out of a cheap pair of computer or CD player speakers.

i found an ideal amplifier for my psone, the sega game gear sound amplifier. it has a built in volume adj and headphone jack. it has its own separate motherboard, no more cutting mobos! it's very small and there are only 5 wires to snip! thought i share the info to those having audio problems like i did.
