Help with a Non-Working PS2!!!

Post by NeoGoldenBoy »

Well I just bougt a PS2 from a friend (I paid like $9 for it, yes $9), apparently it does work, but the problem is that the motor of the Disc Tray does not open (also the blue led does not turn on), but when I opened the PS2 and "opened" the tray, and then "reconstructed" it (with the tray open), and turn on the PS2 and then turn it off it does go back (but not if I use the button for it), also I think that the cable that brings power to the ON/OFF and EJECT switches is faulty, because sometimes it does not tur on (the red led does not turn green); so can anybody help me to fix it or know a tip or something for it, I think it is a 39001 model (maybe you Gannon?).

Thanks in advance, hope that someone can help me, I do really want to repair it.

Try replacing the component labelled ps-11. I think it's a mini fuse so you should be able to just jump it. If that doesn't work it's probably a problem with the dvd controller chip.

Thanks gannon, I will try, but where's the ps-11?

Also, do you think that it affects the Disc Tray? (as you can see I'm a noob), because the main problem is there, and also if there´s not enough info let me know so that I can provide more infor about everything.

Thanks again.

Can somebody help me with this?

I did not find the ps-11, there was a label named ps11, but there´s nothing also there's only one fuse and that one is on the Sub-Board, and it is in good condition.

If more info is needed just tell me or if you dont understand also tell me, hope that someone can help me with this.

Thanks in advance.

You could try replacing the case with one that has a top-loading door for the DVD.

thats actulay a good idea cus tray drives always damage cds and dvds more than top loaders you would have an improved PS2 think of how much time and energy you would save not beating the thing in to the wall from its many technical flaws... you could move on to the bad read speeds of the machine and then to the horid dvd player after you tackle that you could fix the contorler thing then the grapix problems then toss it all out and buy a Dreamcast!

How can I change the case to have a Top Loading Drive?

Also this version of the PS2 (I thinks it's a V7), is one of those that have the Laser and Disc Tray together in a single "case".

So, what can I use, and how can I do it?

Well, since I don't know how to repair this PS2, or change the Disc Drive, (I will try just one more time to repair it), but if I can't I may sell it, so... Is anyone interested?

good luck
Edit:
oh yeah, I still think it's the ps-11 or the BA5815FM thats the problem. If it's the BA5815FM you're kinda screwed unless you send it in to get it fixed.

As I've said I will try one more time to repair it (a friend of mine has a guide for repairing lots of PS2 problems), if I manage to get it to work properly I will stay with it, but if not I will sell it... just I've got a little problem...

I live in Mèxico, and the shipping may be expensive (and I would need to find a company to send it in), also I don't have paypal or something like that to get the money...

As for the price, I don't really know..., and for the version it's a V7.

Sorry for reviving a dead post, but it is better than to create a new one.

Well what I want to know is what could be approximately the price for a PS2 for repair/parts would be? (I'll sell the one I have)
