Can there be a limit to how good graphics get (read)
The companies just keep coming out with new consoles and portable systems.
I mean whats after the ps3 and Xbox 360.
And then to think after that generation what is to come.
i mean graphics have to have a limit.
Maybe one day graphics will be like what we see as humans who knows.
and if they do for a game system well then they got portables to work on.
But i assure you one of these days Nintendo and Microsoft will have to stop making things.
Probably by 2040

There will most likely not be a limit to graphics. They will just keep getting more and morwe realistic to the point thsat the sprites will look like rweal people. I have often pondered the future of videogames too.

someday companies will realize that graphics dont make the game. and there will never be a real limit to graphics, to graphics of this form maybe (pixels and polygons on a flat display you look at with your eyes) but eventually direct neural interfaces, true virtual reality will restart the progress of graphics somewhat

I agree. People will settle for less-than-stellar graphics initially once direct neural interfaces become available. After all, as always, they'll use Wolfenstein or Doom as a proof-of-concept...Triton wrote:someday companies will realize that graphics dont make the game. and there will never be a real limit to graphics, to graphics of this form maybe (pixels and polygons on a flat display you look at with your eyes) but eventually direct neural interfaces, true virtual reality will restart the progress of graphics somewhat
What happens, though, if you try to hack the firmware and brick your head? Hold down your right index finger when you reboot to go into recovery mode?

You know some games, especially on PS3, are getting close to photorealism even on humans. It's only a matter of time!

Lol yeah and by that time nes and snes will be like ancient.
The casual modern gamer would be like.
Is that from the stone age?

I wonder if by then anybody will still play atari? I probably will, because i like older games the best.
I can see it now. The year 2075. Bill Schmid (themadhacker) sitting in his rocking chair, playing his nes while listening to ozzy osbourne's Diary of a madman on a heavily used vinyl record. At the same time, I will be telling my grandchildren about the good old days, the 1990s, where videogames were simpler, but people loved them and didn't complain about it. I'll be wearing a 68 year old pink floyd shirt and very very tattered vans shoes.
I wont get into those new fangled clothes styles! I'll be reminising on the long forgotten website of benheck.com, and while reminiscing, I'll almost be able to smell the sweet intoxicating smell of freshly melted solder, ready to be aplied to a circiut board.
Boy, I can't wait until I'm old!

Everything in the known Universe is finite, except mathematics, which are man-made.

We are starting to hit the point of limited returns or something like that. Basically it's the point where it's so expensive/requires a lot of technology to gain a small amount of realism/awesomeness/whatever. I'm too tired to explain properly.

moores law would disagree, considering a top of the line PC 10 years ago was probably 1-1.5ghz single core processor with MAYBE half a gig of ram now you have computers with 4 3ghz cores and 8+gb of ram for an equivalent priceWe are starting to hit the point of limited returns or something like that. Right now I think the push is in physics. More realistic physics and interaction with the physical world.
