My retro duo snesp EDIT: INVERTED COLORS!?!

Post by themadhacker »

Ok, I have started up my second attempted portable (first one failed). I will be using the snes side of the retro duo. For the case, I found a very sturdy first aid box. I know what you are thinking, but after I am finished with the case, I suspect it will look pretty good. For the screen, I'll be using a casio pocket television. Enough talk, time for pics.

As you can see, the components all fit nicely insidethe case.

The casio screen.

Well, that's it for now until I can get a 75 ohm resistor to make video siutable for the screen, and until I can get a 7805 regulator.

Expect updates in about a week.

Nice...parts?

Always good to know that when I open up a first aid box now, there is a chance, however small, that there is a Super Nintendo ready to play inside. Personally, I'll be opening more from now on.

I think that's the best possible type of first aid.

Keep us posted!

You and me both. However, heaven forbid I actually need some first-aid when I do find one.

Looks good!

I have yet to finish a portable, but I have made three cases (For different ones). Here is a tip: Do not use that first aid box. It can be so much smaller, and you will be far better off just using the plastic from it to glue/bondo your own case. Allows for far more flexibility in design.

Yeah, I wonder where that screen came from. :P

And the case isn't that big at all. It's width is an inch shorter than that of the game gear.

Pretty thick, though....

Ok, I will admit I was thrown off by the size of the screen (Thought it was a psone!)

Can you make it thinner?

It doesn't need to be thinner. My hands fit around it perfectly and comfortably.

MINOR UPDATE!

I decided to start on the case while I wait for parts. I made a graph on the case to make button placement and screen placement more accurate. I placed the controller shell over the case and Sharpied in the holes.

Image
my hand is in the picture to show how well it fits around the case.

BTW I have not decided on where to put start and select, so they are not sharpied on the case yet.

This gives me a better picture of what it will look like when finished. Also, I just bought some krylon fusion black paint for the case, so in the end the portable will be a shiny black.

I'd suggest rasing the controls a bit. I think that might feel better

when I put my hands around it, that's where my thumbs were and it feels best there.
