5"-7" screens?

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

5"-7" screens?

Post by second.exodous »

Does anyone know of a good place to get larger screens? Well, 5"-7". I remember reading on here once and someone posted a link to a site that just sold screens. I'm not going to use it to hack a system per say, I'm building a small computer with a beagleboard and would like a touch screen. This was actually the first place I thought of asking because you need small screens for handhelds.

Thanx,
Stan

you could just buy a pandora... www.openpandora.org

then again, it may very well take forever until these actually start being delivered...

Hey Kyo, I see you all the time on the gp32x forums. I had my pre-order but with all the bank trouble I have to re-pre-order, just waiting for them to get a credit card order up. I'm going to get one.

This is basically just to play around with, I'll have a beagleboard and a Pandora.

Yea I had one preordered.

Then after the whole refund fiasco where I lost $50 on the exchange rate. And now they want me to do a bank transfer and lose another $50 and have no credit card protection. Plus the release date keeps slipping. I've decided to pass on this one.

I ordered at the german shop, so none of that bad stuff happened to me, but I'm still extremely annoyed at all the delays. I just want my copulate device now. I've been waiting for forever now. If this was a full commercial product, everyone would have canceled their orders and they would have gone bankrupt already

Well, I think these kind of delays are normal, the only difference being that the devs talk to us. If this was a product of Sony or Nintendo we'd never hear anything.

The money thing I'm not sure about. I lost some money in the exchange rate also, not $50 though, but the extra memory pays for it. I just hope all the units are pre-ordered before they get a credit card order up. I would be fine waiting for the second wave though if that is what it came down to.

Anyway, about those screens? Does anyone know where I can get the same screen that the new Archos 7 uses?

I know, but before I get a controller I need to know the part number, or is it that easy?

The smaller touch screen I found I just googled the part number and controller and got results. I'm asking for the Archos screens just because I would think they are more popular. I'm kinda new at this.

the website people are talking about for screens is AEI-comp. their screens are expensive but very nice with SMALL controller boards. or for a 7-8" lcd you can get xenarc and lilliuput LCDs like used in car computers (with touchscreen) for 200-300$

For the most part are all 7" screens created equal? I can't really find any reviews.

For example, there is This one and This one, different price but they don't seem to say what the difference is really. The cheaper one comes with a case though. In fact, they both have about the same product number, ALCDP7WVGATS and ALCD7WVGATS, I'm guessing the 'P' stands for protective case or something.

Has anyone had any experience with this kinda stuff? I know this is going to be a learning experience but I'd like to start out with a really nice monitor.

Thanx in advance.

Hmm, maybe since most people that order there order monitors for devices it costs less because of the trouble of taking it out of the protective case? Or maybe it has a larger controller in the case?

Well, if you look at the controller and then at the case it looks like it has the same controller.

probably a demand thing. More people want one with a case, so those can be produced in a higher number
