X-Box 360 HDD Mod? Is There A Definative Answer?

Post by Lord_Turkey »

I'm currently sat at the moment next to the progress of my own 360 portable - it had originally started off as a ps2 one but development shifted.

I've read a lot online about replacing the standard 2.5 official hardrive with a regular one and apparently it is possible with a certain brand on Westen Digital hardrives and I've also read its possible to use any Sata hardrive and 'clone' you're original hardrive contents and layout onto it - however apparently you're unable to utalize any extra space as some hardwired file depicting the 360's hdd size is also copied over.

Is there currently no way to add a different hardrive without this size limitation?

Everything you say is correct except using any drive. As far as im aware its only Western Digital. But it was a long time ago since I messed around with 360 so may have advanced since then.

The 360 bios (I think) won't accept HDD of different sizes than 20GB, 60GB or 120GB. Currently it is possible to flash a drive to 20GB or 120GB using a certain program which involves coping the security sector of a hard drive. I think that is beyond the rules of this forum however.
