I need some music. Suggest me some!

Post by khaag »

List some music for me to get. I'm building up my library, and I need some new artists to listen to. I'm not into the "j-pop" and chip-tunes and such, but I'm open to pretty much everything except country.

Basically anything mellow and chill is what I'm looking for.

Debussy's pretty "chill", I wonder if you know who that is...
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

Oh I know Debussy. Not quite into the Classical stuff unfortunately. And the Brawl soundtrack is sorta just "video game music"; not something I'd find myself listening to on my ipod... not to say that it's bad music, just not something I'd listen to on a regular basis.

Yes, very much so. I'm more of a fan of his keyboard than his orchestral stuff, though.
This post brought to you by David Duchovny's glorious nipples.

So much to choose from...

You could try these on for size I suppose.

Tool - Lateralus
Radiohead - Kid A
Boston - Boston
Dido - Life For Rent
Frou Frou - Details

Just a few options to look into if you feel the need.

I shall give them a look-see. Or rather a listen-hear?

He needs to be exposed to stuff before he can make his own opinions. And I think it's better to find out what other people like and get that rather than buying/downloading stuff randomly.

Recommendations:
The Beach Boys
Billy Joel
Philip Glass - Einstein on the Beach and Metamorphosis
Queen - Greatest Hits I
The Verve - Urban Hymns
Harry Chapin - Greatest Stories: Live
The Beatles
The Eagles

I'd highly suggest progressive rock/metal. Tool, Dream Theater, The Mars Volta (De-Loused), Liquid Tension Experiment.
Jordan Rudess, the keyboardist for Dream Theater has an amazing solo discography, much of which is classical more so than metal.
The duo album put out by Rudess and John Petrucci is quite simply put amazing.

Buckethead is another one, probably the best guitarist I've ever heard. Soothsayer is one of my favorite songs, Whitewash, Nottingham Lace, We Are One, Sail of Soothsayer, all are great songs.

Refer to the last music thread to get a full list of my favorite artists, although it might be slightly out of date.

Adding to the Tool party, check out Aenema. Great song! :P

Some other great bands that people may not know very well...

Sonata Arctica: The entire Unia album is epic, and they've got some great stuff outside that as well, but that one especially. Some of my favorites are "Caleb", "The Vice", and "My Dream's but a Drop of Fuel for a Nightmare".

Enter Shikari: They're pretty damn sweet. They've labeled themselves as "Nintendokore", but it's definitely not techno or chiptune. It's more like metal/hardcore with videogame synth undertones. "Sorry You're Not a Winner" is just an epic song. Check it out! :D

Some other personal favorites are Metallica, Liquid Tension Experiment (you OWE IT TO YOURSELF to listen to their song called "Acid Rain", it's total win), and Nightwish. I listen to a lot of stranger music as well, if that stuff isn't doing it for 'ya. Let me know what you like! :)
