Game Gear LED Mod?

Post by ssnik992 »

I have a Game Gear. I've taken it apart many times, and am quite confident that with some help from people more experienced with electronics, I could install a LED backlight and lower its battery consumption by a lot. I will add pictures of the Game Gear and how I think the backlight would work.

To my knowledge this mod is impossible. I believe it's only possible to front light a game gear, or any of the older hand-helds. See the Gameboy backlight thread in the technical questions and answers forum.

Game Gear is already back lit, THON, he wants to replace the power hungry one it came with with LEDs.

It should be possible to replace the florescent tube with LEDs, just depends on the way the LCD's lightbox is.

What? To my knowledge the Game Gear has always been backlit. That was one of their big selling points over the GameBoy back in the day. (Nevermind the fact that it was a power hungry battery munching machine)

Just a joke. I didn't realize it was back lit. Although that still doesn't justify the 6 AA's it ran on.
