Laptop Screen

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

Laptop screens support VGA, likely. Either that, or they have some sort of VGA convertor to allow support, along with a VGA out for showing the same picture.

So I'm guessing it's very likely that you could view anything which outputs VGA with a laptop screen, as long as you know what parts to use and what to avoid.

Also, you might wanna research into outputting VGA directly from consoles instead of a RCA>VGA, it may cost less.

And use a multimeter to check how many volts the screen gets - screens may vary radically

I hate noobs that think they know what they're saying, like the idiot above me.

YOU CAN'T USE A LAPTOP SCREEN!!!!!

Or you can if you buy a converter from the company who makes it for like $5000.

Umm you guys aren't right. You CAN use a laptop LCD BUT you need an LCD controller. Now the problem with that is that you need to find one that is compatible. Heres one a lot of people have had success with. The LCD needs to be LVDS type. I would suggest going to Lumenlab.com and posting this, the people there can explain everything to you.

$80 shipped isn't exactly cheap. And everyone has said you can, but you need a controller. So for the average person, its too hard to built or too expensive.

Now I'm just throwing this out there but, for the price of the laptop screen and a converter, why not just buy a new LCD screen that is EASILY compatable?
